ok, the above tell what problem i am try'n to figure out for my friends computer whenever she tries and play a cd. Plays for 28 seconds and then stops. She has triied 3 cd's and they do the same thing. She has a Lite-On Combo SOHC-5236K, Windows XP, 128 MB(yeah, i know, she needs more). Should i have her uninstall her drive from Device Manager and restart the computer adn have her try playing a cd again? This happens when she uses WMP, CDBurnerXP Pro and JetAudio, same thing everytime, and no, the cd's aren't scratched to badly to play. Who can advise me? Thanks.
It could be a memory issue; ie: running out of memory resources during cd playback. XP minimum memory requirements is 256MB. Please shut down all other apps to free up resources for cd device, then retry. There is no need to uninstall the device/drivers etc. via device manager yet because it's playing fine up to a certain point. Open up task manager and see what is running and monitor the memory and cpu resources. Let us know.
My friend told me that when she restarted her puter, she put a cd in and it froze immidiately. I told her that most likely she needs to get more memory for it.
