I have been putting some roms on my xbox but I was wondering. Are all ps1 roms in like a hundered parts? I went to download final fantasy 7 and it was like disc 1 part 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9, disc2 part 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 ect. I figured it was just because final fantasy is such a long game but even regular games have a bunch of parts. Are they all like this and will it all appear as one file when I put it on my xbox or 3 for each disc or will it instead be like 40 for each part?
Are they like .r00, .r01, r02, etc Then they are Rar files and you need Winrar to extract the real files.
Ok this is what I did. I went to the rom site and then the systems list. It said like N64 roms, Sega RomS, but rather then roms it said playstation ISO'S. Anyway I went there and a list of games came up I click on final fantasy 7, picked disc 1, then clicked part 1 of like 9 all of which are 50,000 mb, it began to download ...here is the full file name Final Fantasy 7[CD1][NTSC-U].part01.rar and I do have winrar but with th rest of my roms I didn't have to extract them I just put the file winrar opened when the download was complete into a folder and then on to the xbox. (Mabye that means they were extracted i don't know) anyway bottom line I really want to put some ps1 games on so any help you can give is much appreciated!
This is really frustrating me no matter what I try I can't get a single ps1 game to work. Will you give me specific instructions on how to put a ps1 rom on my xbox...all my other systems were easy but I don't know what I am doing wrong with these.
Sad to say.. The FF series don't run well in emulators.. not the xbox ones anyway... You need plugins and there is no way to load them, unless you directly edit the emulator coding. This should tell you what you need to do with the .iso files to get anything to work... You can mount the .iso file and rip it like a real disk. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/443777
You don't need to sit and extract every single RAR file one by one. You choose the very first RAR file in the list and extract that and it will extract through the other volumes for you. Once you are left with the file ISO/BIN/MDF or whatever file is, it's ready to be transferred to the Xbox through FTP (File transfer protocol). So, assuming you know how to do this, (if not, then post back and we'll help you out more) transfer it to the ROM folder within the PSX emulator "psxcds" then launch the game through the menu. If you don't have the emulator either, then post back and either of us wil either send you it or provide a link to download it, and we'l help you a bit more.
Thanks for the help guys. So tell me if this would be right. I download the .rar file from the site of my preference which is labeled as part one of say 5. When it is complete and my download shows up in Winrar I press extract to specified folder. This then opens up a new folder with a file inside of my game for ex: Crash Bash [SCUS-94570].rar I click on that which of course brings up a new folder in winrar and when I open up that there is 2 files one is Crash Bash [SCUS-94570].bin and the other is Crash Bash [SCUS-94570].cue I just ftp one of them to my xbox? Forgive me if I am WAY off because I read the link someone posted earlier and it talked mostly about alcohol 120% but to me it seems that that program is only if you want to put it on a CD which I don't. Like I said if I'm way off just continue to point me in the right direction...thanks guys!
Extract the bin and cue file to the desktop. Use Nero or Alcohol, etc to burn an "Image" file, select the cue file.
bin/cue are a burning pair.. yup.. you need to mount the cue file on a virtual drive (nero has one, as does magiciso and alcohol120%) and rip following the guide I posted before.. Then ftp the .img file into the right directory in the emulator and it should appear as if by magic in the "select games" menu. I found xpcsx to be VERY picky about the games it would run, and the file format it liked. The .img format suited more than the .iso type. skullmonkeys works very well, but 3d rendered games are not so good requiring quite a high frame skip leading to bad headaches after a short time of play. The tomb raiders all work quite well.. not as good as on a ps1, and others in the adventure/platform genre seem to be ok.. shadowman was dark.. Atlantis ran but was very blocky and myst refused to load the puzzle overlays, as did FF VIII Overall I feel a better emulation experience is to be had playing the games on the PC with a good modern emulator and plenty of cpu and memory overhead. Don't expect miracles.. the xbox only just makes it on the hardware side for reasonable emulation speeds.
