Everytime I'd try to boot up my Xbox the eject button goes red and on the screen it tells me to call customer support. It DOES NOT show an error code. I've tried unplugging & reconnecting the IDE cable but the same thing happens. Very rarely will it continue to boot a game but as of late it isn't.
Well, let's start from the beginning. 1) Have you attempted to modifie your Xbox in any way? 2) Did you possibly drop your Xbox or do anything to damage it? 3) How long has this problem been occuring for?
It wan't modded in any way. Just a regular xbox. Been doing this for about a month now. Never dropped or handle it in any rough manner. It is now just sitting idle.
I would call Microsofts customer support and tell them your problem. See what they have to say. If that does not work, I would try to chip your system and see if it boots up then.
I forgot to say that there is this clicking noise, I opened it up and it's form the hard rive. I could buy another hard drive but the only thing im worried about is trying to get my xbox live account info I don't care about the game data.
I believe you can do an account recovery, as all of your data is stored on the hosts servers you play on. If your HD is clicking, that is a good sign that it is shot. Call Microsoft and see what they say to do. If you get just a different HD and modchip in your system, you will not be able to go online because you will get banned for going on w/ a different HD besides your original one. You could buy a matching HD and motherboard combo if you want to play online again, and then just do an account recovery on that HD. Check out http://www.llamma.com or even eBay for matching HD/Mobo combos. Make sure you get the one to match your Xbox version. But I would first call M$ and see what they say to do about your broken HD. They may just give you a new one w/ the same lock code for cheap?
Sorry about the repost but I found a matching drive on ebay but I don't know about the motherboard combo. Do I have to get an absolutely new motherboard?
depending on what hard drive you get and the only way you can use anybody harddrive is by having a modchip Edit: you can also edit you message anyways does the matching combo have the same matching mother board you got in your xbox right now if not then you need a new motherboard
If your not going to get a modchip, then you will NEED to get a matching HD and motherboard combo for your Xbox. Every HD and Xbox mobo are married to eachother by a unique lock code, and if they are interchanged in an unmodded console you will be getting error 5 or 6's evertime you boot your Xbox. Again, make sure to get a motherboard/HD combo that matches your Xbox version; to find your Xbox version, go here: http://xbox-scene.com/versions_1.php
