Hi there and thanks for this thread, The problem I have is that I don’t know whatever I got my Wii bricked or if it’s any hardware problems. I have a European Wii and I inserted Mario Strikes in Pal version, it updated my Wii, and after that it was possible to play the game, the problem came when I tried to start the unit after it had been powerd off. It showed all signs of a totally bricked Wii, although I didn’t get any error message, didn’t get any picture at all and no hardware did respond, couldn’t even eject the disc. After trying to turn it on and off for 10times I got it working again, but after turning it off again it’s stuck in that bricked state. Could this be a bricked unit or is it more possible that some hardware is dysfunction?, the timing felt scary as I updated the unit just before, but as said before I get no error message as I read you should get if it’s bricked. Thanks in advance! Robert
How can U tell if an ISO is NTSC-U or it was just patched 2 NTSC-U? Is there a program 4 this? Also Brick Blocker won't run on my PC. I'm I doing something wrong? Running XP
I am running a d2b on 3.0e, with the latest Cyclowiz firmware also. Is there a list (or table) of import games that would brick my Wii? If not, I will start one from the things I find in forums, but usually when I do stuff like this that I think will be helpful, I find it has already been done! Cheers - Slack
If my chip has region override turned OFF, does that protect it from being bricked by not playing out of region?
so with the full bricked unit no one has come up with a way to solve this yet?....If I remove the key and clean everything up inside will nintendo replace the bricked unit?. afterall there was no warning sayng updating from an out of region game will RUIN your wii
Does anyone know if brick blocker works with vista? I have an iso of mortal kombat armageddon, but when i try to patch it i get a message :Unhandled exception...access to the path C/Users/.../... is denied" Actually sorted it out now. The iso was read only!
Hi guys. I would like to share my experience with those who own NTSC-U and got their Wii semi-bricked due to Big Brain Academy PAL update. Try running the update found in "POKEMON Battle Revolution" NTSC-U. I updated and my Wii is now version 2.2U and the Wii settings is back to normal ie no more showing the Opera screen error. Hopefully it will work for you guys as it worked for my NTSC-U that was semi bricked due to the Big Brain Academy PAL update. Try at your own risk, though. Rightfully it should be okay since it is a NTSC-U update for Wii NTSC-U.
Yes you are right, and also BBA is well known for fixing NTSC-U brick problems prior to 2.2U, it is safe to do so.
It has been a week since i asked this, so forgive me for re posting it but i felt a week is a long time. If my chip has region override turned OFF, does that protect it from being bricked by not playing out of region?
Yes, in theory it should be protected as only your own region games will run and thus only those updates Confirming something that I tested a while back: Even if you have up to date firmware it is not "safe" to allow an out of region game to update. I had firmware 3.0E and I let Mario Strikers update and now I have duplicate weather and news channels
I have a USA Wii that I use in Japan. Will I be safe to use Wii Connect to update my system to 3.0U, even though I am in Japan? Does the system get on the internet and check for the correct update for itself? I know that the chance is slim, but I have been wondering if it is possible that the system might look at its location (in the world) and update in that way. Hopefully, being that my Wii is a USA system, it will just look for the 3.0U update... Can anyone say for sure that this is the case?
@Erdrick Yes, the system looks for the appropriate update by itself based on it's make, not location. There is currently no location checking when you connect for an update. NTSC-U will only update NTSC-U, NTSC-J will update NTSC-J, PAL will update PAL. Only way you can screw up an update is if you have a modded Wii with regionlock off and update your firmware using a game from a different region.
Need help , i have a jap wii , i updated thru internet and now its 3.0j . i tried to play super paper mario us ver but its still asking for an update should i update it since im 3.0j and spmario is only 2.2u i want to play the game without the the blocker is it possible will it brick my unit thnks
@jhetun According to the compatibility chart (http://wiki.gbatemp.net/index.php?title=Wii_Region_Patcher_Compatibility_List), as long as you are updated to the latest firmware (3.0J), it's safe. I'm playing it on my 3.0J Wii with no problems.
Does anybody know what version of firmware Pokemon Battle Revolution NTSC-J has and Samurai Warrior Katana NTSC-J has? My NTSC-J wii was semi bricked by Mario Strikers NTSC-U, and after I updated my wii with Pokemon Battle Revolution, nothing changes, the Wii setting still hasn't come back and I still have double of the weather and news channel. I also tried Samurai Warrior Kantana, it didn't prompt an update. Does anyone knows what's going on here?
-The best way to protect your wii (with wiikey chip) from being bricked is to not play other region discs by turning off the region override in wiikey setting. -When the region lock is on, it is then unnecessary to patch the iso (if same region coded as wii console) with wii brick blocker as it makes some games unplayable; however, you will not be able to play out of region games at all. Are the above statements correct? Could someone please confirm it? Also, the PAL version of wii in Australia is the same as PAL version in Europe, right? I read on wikipedia and there seems to be 2 PAL format: PAL and PAL/E. If someone knows please clear my confusions Thanks for reading *EDIT: tried to play some EU pal games on my Australian consoles, all worked flawlessly so EU and Aus versions are the same.
Hey I am semi new to this whole modding scene, I have been doing reading and reserch and am in the process of getting a wiikey installed. For burning games (I have a US Wii) as long as the game I'm playing is a legit NTSC game I dont have to worry about anything right, even though its burned? The only issues I ever have to worry about is if the game is from a different region right (PAL/J)? And if it is from a different region can I run regionfrii and brickblocker on the iso prior to burning and still be guaranteed that I won't brick my system and that the worst that will happen is the game not work? Please and thanks everyone
