If Metroid Prime is PAL, you're safe.
Just did it too. At the moment I don't have a game that has a newer update than SMG. Some games do "update" your Wii but it's just to add a specific capability. E.g. Pokémon Battle Revolution also asks to update the Wii. I'm THINKING this is because it enables a feature that hasn't been available before (connecting to DS) but ofcourse, that's only a guess. These aren't the updates you have to be afraid of. Only the ones that update your Wii system firmware version are to be untrusted. I'm sure you will read about problems with a specific game here first before you even have the game :).

Just disable region override (should be the default though!) in your Wii-key setup. That way it will never play NTSC/U or NTSC/J games so you're safe.

Download Wii brick blocker linked on the first page. Load the ISO into it and click on Read Info and it will tell you what region the game disc is.

I wonder if my Wii is brick/semi-brick.
I have read what this means. But, I think this is different from anything I have read.
After I inserted Rayman Rabbits 2-PAL in my NTSC-J, I keep getting this message for all my DVDs:

I can't play any games. However, everything else (e.g. Mii, settings, etc) works.
    Is my Wii brick?
    Please help.

    Thanks!

Try again holl05. There could be numerous other reasons for that error message.

There are allot of other issues this could be rather then a bncked DVD Drive(bricked by bad install of modchip).

That screen even tho I can't read Japanese is more then likely saying the unable to read disc error.

Make sure you have a Modchip installed.

    Try re-burning the disc.

Make sure the Modchip is installed properly.

Make sure region override is set to ON.

You could have bricked your disc drive if Modchip was installed improperly.

You could have a bridged connection on the board due to soldering splash.

You didn't re-attach ribbon cable and other cables properly when re-assembling the Wii.

Does your retail (original) games work?

I really do appreciate your help.
All my Wii games were working fine until I placed Rayman Rabbit2. Now, none of my games work. When I place in any games, Wii shows the 2 disks spinning, then that image "?" appears.

This is not the usual error message due to a region brick issue.

You will get a black screen with a opera error when bricking your system or DVD drive due to a region brcik.

PAL has been confirmed to work...

    wii is 3.1J,and wiikey1.9G

    Rayman.Raving.Rabbits.2.PAL run prefectly,no update,

This was confirmed on another site.

So this is no region brick issue becuase it is also confirmed that no update is on the disc.

    hi guys,

I am a noob too and wahave a question regarding my Wii.

I have a Wii Jap with V3.1 installed (with Wii key installed)
I can run SMG (japanese) on it no problems but recently came back to UK and bought Link's crossbow training (PAL) - it asked me to update my system (which i said yes and realised that it was updating my Wii at which point i switched off my Wii to cancel it).

I now find that my Wii has duplicate channels (and i have not put in Link's crossbow training since).

is it safe to run Link's crossbow training and does the duplicate channels on my Wii mean that my Wii is semi bricked?

All my other games work fine at the moment (I play a selection of ntsc-U and ntsc-J games including Sonic and Mario @ the olympic games)

    many thanks in advance

    hi,
i brought my kids a wii (PAL) with a D2CKEY, the wii firmware is v2.0

i tried a copy of Mario Galaxy (PAL) and it prompted for me to update when i put the disc in, i didnt do it, i just turned the wii off.

will it be completely safe for me to 'OK' this update?

It'd be best to update through the internet (in a pal region of course) but otherwise it's safe to update a pal system with a pal game.

Im a newbie but have gained alot of help from this site about chipping my wii system.
Im writing to let you know that i have chipped my PAL (UK) wii with a DC2key chip, and then updated it to the latest firmware upgrade via the internet (3.1E).
Instead of purchasing a specific LG drive to rip my original games and back them up- i downloaded them from the web instead. All of my PAL games have worked flawlessly- when burnt onto Sony (DVD-R media) at (4X) speed on Nero 7.

Unfortunately i could not find some PAL games relative to my originals so i have them in NTSC (US) format. Im leaving them for last, as in reading this thread im aware that they could brck my Wii- i will brick block them first and let you know how i progress.
However at the moment the D2Ckey chip is working well.

hi there! I NEED HELP... i have a US WII 1st generation moded with wiijkey, last firmware 1.9b...i bought wii fit japanese version and tried to play it...i had to install a system update from the CD in japanese (new japanese channels appearing on the front panel now)..hope this did not fusk my system...so far it does not seem as all my other US games are working perfectly fine....BUT! the game wii fit is all in japanese...and i don't understand anything as you may well imagine...i was able to sync the board with the wii...go through the MII setup (balance gravity center test, left/right balance tests were perfectly fine and fun so i'm sure the device is correctly synced to my system)..when i enter the gym, i can choose my gym professor and perform some further left/right precise balancing tests...BUT whenever i try to start an activity or a game, i get a screen with a header in japanese i don't understand and with 2 lines : first one displaying 1P - (player name) - and 4 little boxes (first one being green and the others dark), second line is empty...it reminds me of the wii sports screen where each player has to press a&b simultaneously before playing....but whatever i do nothing happens!! PLEASE HELP...the only thing working on this screen is the option to go back to previous screen (button B) ....PLEASSSSEEEE!! i so eagerly awaited for this!!
