no, i wont ask you to remove it, you say it worked for you and others so thats fine. Anyone reading it can see there is another member warning against your method possibly damaging their system, so it's really up to the individual to decide if they want to try it or not. thats the beauty of having a forum, anyone can post their opinions, and anyone else can contest them. Since I know nothing of the psp, I would be neglecting my job here if i just ran in and removed your post based on someone else's opinion of your methods, and on the same token, i would also be neglecting my job if i didn't draw attention to the fact that there is someone that disagrees with your methods. i do enough babysitting around here, i choose to let the readers decide what they want to do. carry on.
Just to make sure I understand: I have a Japanese Wii. Not sure about the version... I updated from a Japanese Dragon Quest Swords once... Then I updated from a US Sims Pets, although I think it was suppose to be the same version. Semi-bricked. Accessing the options gets me an Opera browser page. I can put in Metroid and it will not harm the Wiis game playing function? That is all I care about.
No you wont. You will just get duplicate weather/news channels if you havent already got them. If you want to avoid them, read above but decide for yourself.
well its been a few days since i last checked in... well i have successfully installed my wiikey in to my machine (a d2b with the legs cut) a have spent several hours in a darkened room to recover from my ordeal but it was worth it!!! well my question may be a bit lame but it might give u a smile... my console is pal but just to be on the safe side i only downloaded pal iso's wich i then brick blocked and burned... guese what i have a stack of games that turn to a black screen when i press start aaarrrggghhh!!!! a few games work fine so i guese the games that dont work should have had the updates left intact!!! please can someone confirm that a backedup game from the same region as the console should not be brickblocked to allow game updates to install on the cosole.... thanks in advance
STU here got uk wii got boogie asks for update can i just confirm that the update is just for microphone its a pal boogie wont work when i wiibrickblock it i know someones probably asked this and im behind the times also my first wii console still sits below my new one as it is still fully bricked due to super paper mario any fix yet cheers
I have a PAL console and have not yet updated from 2.2E. I was one of the people who ran Big Brain Academy U-NTSC back a few monts ago and had the News & Weather channels duplicated, but I did not have any other problems. I haven't found info about this anywhere, what the 3.0E update does to such systems. Can anyone help me out please?
Is there any chance to find out whether a Wii disc's region code is NTSC-U, NTSC-J or PAL? I mean not by looking at the cover but rather by checking the data contained on the disc. Cheers.
Go to the first page of this thread and find the link to Wii Brick Blocker. Download the 1.3 version of it. There is a button you can select that says (READ INFO) after you load the Wii ISO select that option and it will tell you what region the game disc is. (Yes it tells you the original game region even if it has been patch for another)
Just went to a shop in Malaysia which sells Wiis modded with Wiikey. I chose a NTSC-U Wii. 1) I tried Metroid Prime NTSC-U - a message came up "updating..." - game worked 2) I tried Mario Strikers - PAL - the famous error message appeared- the game didn't work not did all other games we tried from then... They got a second machine (the first one was obiously screwed up) 1) I tried Paper Mario - NTSC-U - a message came up "updating... - game worked 2) I tried Mario Party 8 - PAL - The error message occured. Game didn't work nor did any other game from then on. I feel bad having tried that at a shop and happy at the same time. Obviously in both cases the Wii got bricked. Now, I am a real noob when it comes to this. I thought when you load Metroid Prime (same region code as the Wii) the game would automatically install v.3.0U of the firmware. So why got the system bricked when I tried the PAL Version of Mario Strikers AFTER that?? I thought I read it updates a the firmware 2.XXE. Since the Wii was already 3.0. Why did this happen? As for the second try I was not too sure. I actually expected that Mario Party 8 would be the NTSC-U Version. Later I checked the game cover and found out that it's multi. Therefore PAL... :-/ Anyhow the guys from the shop will call me after they have a machine where all games I wanted do work. Hope they don't destroy some more. It's really THAT easy.... Any suggestions what went wrong and how to prevent this from happening again?? Thanks.
@overdog51 If your trying to play PAL games make sure that the REGION OVERRIDE is enabled on the Wiikey. If its disabled then you will get the error messge when playing PAL or NTSC(J) backups. You enable the REGION OVERRIDE with the Wiikey setup disc. By the way the Metroid prime 3 is not a 3.0 update.
@larrylje: To get this straight for me: 1) I load the Wiikey Setup Disk 1.2 2) I enable Region Override 3) I load Metroid Prime 3 and accept the update 4) After that I can play ANY game that was released before Metrois Prime 3 (i.e. that has the same or a lower firmware update on it), no matter if it is al PAL or a NTSC-P game (including Mario Strikers which seemed to have caused some trouble for other users) Please confirm. Thanks again.
I would suggest downloading Wii brick Blocker that is on the first page of this guide and use it on game disc with updates on them that are PAL and NTSC(J) games. You don't need to worry about updates that are on NTSC(U) game disc since you have a NTSC(U) Wii. All you have to do is load the ISO into the Wii brick Blocker program and patch it. This will disable the update on the disc.
Hi everybody.. I have have JPN Wii, which is semi-bricked... And I am searching for a game with the firmware update 3.0... Can anybody, tell me wich game? And maybe where I can find it. Thanks..
Regarding previous post, having a later firmware from a given region doesn't protect you from partially affecting your Wii. I had updated to 3.0E and after inserting a Mario Strikers DVD and letting it update I now have duplicate News and Weather channels. I can still access settings and use the Wii normally otherwise though.
@larrylje: I understand that patching the iso would be the safest way to go. Now, unfortunately what I have are copies of the games itself (I do not have the isos). I have no idea what region code they are (PAL, NTSC-U or NTSC-J). The computer drive will obviously not read these copies, so I cannot check the region code. Neither would I want to insert a disc which region code I am not sure about into the Wii. What options do I have? I mean other than playing Russian Roulette with the Wii by just trying out the game discs... (covers or labels that could give away the region code are not available). I would basically only wanna play NTSC-U to be safe. Any suggestions?
overdog51, you could try making an iso of the original disk. Refer here: http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/471073 From there you could find out what region the game is after making an iso of it.
Thanks for the suggestion slping247. So I need a LG DVD-Drive, right? Problem is...it won't quite fit into my notebook... Are there other possibilities?
Can I use the Wiikey Setup Disk to do a dump of a game on an SD card? May this alone cause a brick problem on my NTSC-U machine should the disk be NTSC-J or PAL? If the answer is no, then I could assemble the parts on the PC and use Brick Blocker to find out the region code of the disk, right?
