If u know what ure doing and other backups work then seems its def a media problem.

ive heard verbatim are very good too - but try your local cheap computer retailer for their no name brands too - i paid for a few "name" brands all of which didnt work - then finally the "no name" ones from my local shop (which were less than 25% of the price!) worked perfectly every time.

other tip ive heard is burn at 2x or 2.4x...

You say Retail and foreign work. What do you mean when you say foreign? Do you mean they are of a diffrent region or are they backup copies?

Did you install the cIOS36_rev9 so WiiGator will work?

I've previously had a post regarding about playing games online. No reply about it really. I've installed everything. But what should I be aware of?

    Can I play games online?

Should I turn WiConnect24 off? What happens if I want to go on the Weather Forecast channels etc and it needs updating?

Also, new firmwares? I've read to update to new firmwares, to do them you need the previous installations, before this guide was updated, mines was kinda an older version which doesn't necessarily have to use the WiiGator Backup Lancher channel etc. So would I have to undergo this?

And what's the difference between installing files with WAD instead of Network installation? How would you set up a Network installation?

    Sorry for so much questions!

I hope I get a reply this time!

    Yes you can play online.

I leave WiiConnect24 on and have no issues.

You need to make sure you have cIOS36_rev6 or above before updating to 4.0 firmware. This is all covered in the guide.

WAD install uses a WAD file to get the needed files and Network uses WiFi to get the files. Is this that hard to understand?

By leaving WiConnect24, wouldn't that cause updates to the official firmware? Also, I assume you would leave the Standby update function off?

And that whole WAD installation thing and that whole Network installation thing. It's not hard to understand... but HOW? (I'm sorry, but that is what I'm trying to ask). Cause instead of having to use WAD files, how would I use the Network to get the files instead? So I don't always have to go onto websites etc to find WAD files and then have em' install the files (if that's what they do).

Firstly, I'll apologize on my side of things (if there was any unnecessary conflict). No need to flame or be rude about it.

I would search, but cause I follow this guide, I thought I would ask questions on here, so therefore it still relates to the topic (no point creating a new topic if this is where I followed to homebrew my Wii).

Thanks for the WAD info tho^^ It's nice to be helpful.

I already answered your questions above. So what else can I say? WAD option uses the WAD file to install the files needed. Network usses the Nintendo WiFi to do it. Nothing much else can be said about it.

Can't remember clearly the previous guide, but I ended up using the cIOS installer first to get backup games to work. Because I was trying to homebrew my friend's Wii, but realized that the guide has been updated. I tried Backup Launcher before cIOS installer and the games didn't work. So I tried using the cIOS installer first and things became fine^^

I think I'm gonna try and complete following the guide to ensure the other WAD files are installed in case I'm having to update to 4.0

thats because there are many different situations, what works best for one may not work best for another.
you need to find what works best for you, if burning at max speed seems to burn games ok for you than let it be, but if it produces coasters you may need to burn ay 2x or 4x.
myself i burn everythin from movies, xbox 360 and wii iso's and have burned thousands of verbs, all on max speed with no more than a small handfull of coasters.
so i have no problem with fast burns at all.
just try to see what works for you.

thnx for replying, on my other disks i've tried to burn at x4 but it didn't work, it was probably with the media i used, phillips dvd-r. i really don't mind how long it takes as long as it works perfectly f9 and i don't have to waste loads of disks, what would u suggest as a starting point to burn at, x2?

There are 2 ways that the cIOS Installer gets the files it needs to use when installing the cIOS (So yes you need to run the cIOS Installer).

    1) IOS36-64-v1042.wad (If you use this method place this wad in the root of the SD Card and run the cIOS Installer. Then choose WAD Install when it ask what option to use to get the files it needs).

    2) Using the Network (Choose this option if you do not have the IOS36-64-v1042.wad file and the cIOS Installer will use the WiFi connection to get the files it needs).
