    THIS IS FOR SOFTMODDING!

There are 2 ways to mod your system now.

Softmod and hardmod. This is for Softmod users that want to boot from disc channel rather then booting from a backup launcher.

    wow..idn what's even happened now.
i saw elsewhere that i should change the version info in my hacks file to suit the v289...so where it said version=417 i changed all those to 289

it worked smoothly, and i continued to follow the guide

and when i got to the part that said the system would be corrupt or w/e, it never happened..but i can launch games from the wii disc channel now?

but when i go into settings, it says i'm back on version 3.2U
and i kinda want 4.0 so i can launch wads thru my SD card. i originally only upgraded for the disc channel launching.

any idea what i should do now?
    start over?

Hi guys, really sorry but kinda a noob to this but i know my way around stuff.

Anyway i have followed both of Larrys guide and i have got the homebrew channel installed etc.

I have a back up of a game but it wont launch, if i go to the disc channel menu it says 'unable to read disc' and if i use neogamma it times out and doesnt load.

Everything installed fine with no problems. Is it possible that i have burnt my back up wrong or is it a dodgy back up or do i need to do something else?

In addition when i burnt the disc it was fine.

Thanks for your help guys, keep up the good work.

    It could be several things:
    1) are you using DVD+R or DVD-R or (heaven forbid) RW's? I have had very hit and miss luck with RW disks (found 1 out of a pack of 5 that did work, but it was very flaky).
    2) what speed are you burning it at? I found that 4x seemed to work best for me.
    3) some people reported having issues with having an SD card in the slot. Try removing it.
    4) your game may not be supported/bad image made. Try re-making the image from the original.
    5) which cIOS did you install?
Some/all of the above could be your issues. Please post back with the information.

Just wanted to give a heads up.

I have updated the guide for 4.1 firmware.

Those that followed the guide previously on 4.0 firmware can start at STEP 3 of the guide to update to 4.1 with all options still available that 4.0 firmware had.

The dvd's i am using are DVD-R's not tried burning at a slower speed but not sure how it would help as i have got burnproff on or would that not help? It was burnt at maximum which is 16x for the disk and i havent had any problems with anything else i have put on these disks if that makes any difference? I am also using nero to burn the ISO.

I have tried with no SD card in and that didnt make any difference, i got the same results as when i had it in.

The guide says start at step 3 not do step 3. So yes start at step 3 and onward and it should work.

I am not certain a slower speed would help you then. When I had speed issues, ejecting then reinserting the game would make it work (usually). I am wondering if the game may be incompatible or if you possibly missed a step in this guide. Also, does your wii serial number start with L64 or L65? What you could try is reinstall cIOSCorp and see if that makes a difference. From my understanding cIOSCorp is what is used for loading backups.
and this may sound like a dumb question, but are you sure your backup is of a wii game? And that your backup was created successfully? Do you have a friend with a hacked wii that you could test the game on? It could be an incompatible game possibly. Try backing up wii sports and see if that backup works and go from there (if you are certain that you followed all of the steps correctly).

Well i play all my games via disc channel, in the install process of 3.2menu it installs a hack menu to tweak menu.. i.e. region free sd menu, no health warning etc etc

Follow the guide starting at STEP 3 (you can also skip step 3 since you are already at 4.1 firmware) but do the rest of the steps after step 3.

Just a little update on my situation. I have borrowed a backed up game from a friend and it works fine. I have also tried another iso twice on a fast speed and a slower speed but nothing happens well correction on that the second time on the slower speed it read the disk but an error came up but couldnt see it over ng.

Sounds to me like your burner may be failing then. Either that or you have a bad backup. I would attempt to recreate the backup or transfer the disk image (iso presumably) to another PC and try to re-burn it. Also, try different software for burning the disks. I would recommend imgburn. I had issues with nero myself. Also, if you put the disk that you burned into your computer and open it in my computer, do you see anything on the disk?
Side note: which game are you trying to burn? I can see if I have it and if I can get a backup of it to work. Could be an issue with that game.

ok here's my experience. i was on 4.0e with the guide installed. i hit nintendo system update which it did but gave an error code at the end. the wii said 4.1e however when it rebooted. trying update again returned 32002 and 32007 error's which i suspect is more the server busy or my wifi.

i put a backup of sports resort in the drive and the wii reported system update before you can use this software. it ran and passed install, still saying 4.1e. then loaded the backup no problems????

the only thing i noticed is the preloader no longer works by accessing on boot.

    hope this helps someone

Pleloader 4.1u is out now - has been for a few days. Grab a copy and reinstall via homebrew. Seems to work with 4.1u firmware just fine. It also gives the ability to move the disc channel around now. As a result, I would not recommend Cioscorp installation to anyone anymore. I used to like it just for the fact of being able to play discs directly on the disc channel, but if bootmii doesn't like the file structure, then neither do I.

I had cioscorp installed on 4.0u. I ended up downgrading to 3.2u to wipe it clean. Then upgraded to 4.1u the "normal way". I lost disc channel playback but feel much better about my system file integrity now. Plus, since implementing USB Loader GX 2 weeks ago, I don't have a single backup disc anymore.

There is nothing wrong with cIOSCorp or the structure. The Bootmii team is anti-piracy and for that reason do not like it. They don't recommend installing a cIOS either but I doubt you will stop using it. Because if you did then you would have no way to launch backup games from a launcher or USB loader.

As for 4.1 the guide was updated yesterday to include the the 4.1 hacks.ini file so you are a little late there.
