Well you definitely aren't getting any 1080p tv for $500 or $750. Your looking at 3 grand for a 1080p unless its about 5 inches. If you want 26" your looking at around $1000 to $1500 depending on the brand.

What I would do, if you have enough room for it, is get a projector. You can get the InFocus SP4805 for about $1,000 from a store, BUT with the trusty deals you can get on ebay you can get it for exactly $750 which is what you said you were willing to go up to. You can make this baby go up to 106 inches. Here is a link for it on ebay.

The link above doesn't come with a screen so you would have to project it on a wall. It's fine to project it on a wall if you have the open wall space, but if you don't then you would want to go with a screen. So if you want to project it where cupboards or pictures or whatever are then you just get the pulldown screen, so you can roll it up when your done. Here is a link for the same projector with a 76" screen.

If you want to get really crazy then here is the link for the same projector with a 106" screen.

The projector is 720p which is still very good looking, just not the 1080p you want. But for the price you cant beat it. For a 1080p tv only like 40" your looking at $3,000. For Sony's new 1080p projector, you are looking at $10,000.

Projectors are definitely the way to go if you have the wall space. You can blow away your friends puny 40" hdtv with your 106" hdtv projector that you got for half the price. If you project this to say 106" then you are essentialy looking at a 106" plasma tv. They look exactly the same, but they don't even make 106" plasma tv's and of they did it would be probably over $10,000.

The InFocus SP4805 has gotten very good reviews and for the money, I don't think you can beat it. Here are some links from very reputable sites with customer reviews and editorial reviews on the projector.

OK there I think I have given you enough info and links on the projector. The only drawback is that projector bulbs run out after a while--3,000 to 4,000 hours. A replacement bulb is around $300, but 3,000 hours will last you 3 years so its not that big of a deal. For your price range, I don't think you will find a tv you want, so I would go with a projector. If not the one I told you about, then another one, but make sure you research and get customer reviews and what not so you don't spend a bunch of money and then not like what you got. I already did all the research for you on this one. :). One last thing...buy this on ebay because you will save yourself a couple hundred. The link I showed you was from a guy with 99% feedback so that would be a good person. Just don't buy from a new person or someone with crappy feedback when your spending hundreds of dollars. DAMN I just wrote a crapload, I hope you appreciate this. Good Day!!!

I ha ve a 27" LCD that goes up to 1080i (will do prg scan in all lower formats inc 720p etc etc)

    the cost..............

    £470.00 !!!

It's a Prima, yes you have never heard of them but I am not shitting you, the actual design and look of the thing is better than any sony, samsung or whatever else you can think of. It's plain black with no buttons, badges or anything on the front, sweet!

    it was from:

    http://www.microdirect.co.uk/Productinfo.aspx?ProductID=11409

The picture on the website is crap, the speakers are not grey and that massive logo is not on it when delivered, it's soooooo sexy.

has no HDMI port but I'm running the xbox in 720p through component cables and it looks amazing, dvd playback is also very good, just can't wait for HD tv broadcasting over here now.

I've got an actual photo if anybody wants me to send it pm me.
