i have an intel M processer 1.86. im lead to belive that the M means it is a duel core, as in two lumps of silicon instead of one, and thus twice the speed. i also read that xp home (which im using) only supports one core. are ether of these statments true?? or A) did i get screwd and sold a 1.86Gh machine when i thought i was buing a 3Gh and B) do i need to upgrade to xp pro so i can get full use of my machine? please help me as there is still time to return the machine thank you
if you have a laptop than the "m" stands for mobile not dual core. dual cores don't start til the high 2's & into the 3ghz range
yey, but i was told that its two 1.8gh (sorta), was i screwd? some sites say its duel core, others dont. im so confused
its a fijitsu siemens amilo, with 1g ram, 256 mb graphics card, intel pentium M 1.86GHz 783mhz, xp home (do i need to upgrade??)and dvd-rw. oh, and i bought it in a shop (not online like i should have). hope that gives you enough info. thank you so much, i spent the bulk of my savings on this thing, and i need to know if i should give it back...(im 15, so money is a bit of a problem)
I have the following in my laptop below: "The Intel Pentium M processor is based on a high performance, low power micro-architecture and includes several innovative features like an advanced branch prediction and data prefetching, Streaming SIMD Extensions 2 support, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology support, Intel MMX media enhancement technology support and advanced thermal monitoring capabilities. The Intel Pentium M processor is the next step towards achieving high mobile performance at very low power. This exciting new processor supports Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology at multiple operating points instead of two points support on existing processors. Real-time dynamic switching of the voltage and frequency between multiple performance modes is based on CPU demand. This occurs by switching the bus ratios, core operating voltage, and core processor speeds without resetting the system. Multiple Enhanced Intel SpeedStep technology operating points enable optimal performance at the lowest power. "
thank you. i take it that means that its only a 1.86GHz?? its just that wikipeida seems to think there duel core
ok, thank you, i found this http://compreviews.about.com/od/cpus/a/PentiumM.htm does it sound belevible? http://www.google.ie/search?hl=en&q=intel+pentium+m+1.86+dual+core?&spell=1 for the definition, its in the article somwehere
