I searched through prior posts with this problem but didn't see any real solutions. I've spent days trying to figure this out and I'm at my wits end. I believe the problem is Nero / InCD related. I'm running WinXP. I think it all started while upgrading my Nero program and InCD utility off their website. At first InCD had an "exclamation point" over its symbol in the program tray after installing the newer version, so I uninstalled it. Neither drive would detect any type of CD. If I rebooted, the drives would work for maybe a minute or changing disks then gone. Drivers and drives are fine so there's no mechanical problems. I found a help doc on Microsoft's page to go into the registry and delete a filter that InCD had installed. This initially worked for a few minutes, but its back. I tried reinstalling Nero and running Norton utilities to clean up the registry and any missing links. It cleaned up dozens of errors, but the problem persists. It must be a program conflict somewhere in the registry, but I don't know where to look. Unistalling Nero doesn't seem to work. The registry is still a mess with "leftovers" even after the uninstaller gets done with it.
I know a lot of people have had these problems. What can I try next????
