my mouse icon froze on my pc no movement at all so i rebooted the pc hoping this would rectify the problem but when i did this the mouse icon was still stuck in the middle of the monitor and i could only get to the xp welcome screen. i rebooted the pc again using the pc on off switch and tried to get the pc into safe mode but then found out the keyboard wasn't working just like the mouse. i tried the 2 components in different usb ports with the same result.which ever port on my pc i use the mouse is recieving power as the light glows underneath. the mouse and keybord work as i've tried them in another pc and there's no problems at all. is there any way i can get into my pc to check settings.

Pull the power cord from the back of the PSU. With the cord unplugged, hit hte power button. That will dump all power left in the system. Plug back in, and try to go into BIOS. Double check the settings for USB kb/mouse detect on boot. If everything checks out OK, and it still doesnt work, reset the CMOS (using the jumper or pulling tha battery). If that doesnt work, sounds like you may have corrupt usb drivers, and the USB is failing to work. Try a ps2 mouse/kb and see what happens.

    Good luck.

A ps2 mouse/keyboard. Meaning a mouse/keyboard that slots into the ps2 slot on your motherboard.

    ps2 connectors are the green & purple round connectors that connects a mouse(green) & a keyboard(purple).

Depending on how new, I would take it up with the retailer/manufacturer first. Se if they make it right.

    If not, use USB instead.

possibility you blew a fuse or domed a capacitor on the motherboard.
