I have an hp dvd burner 400i that has recently stopped working. First off it won't burn dvds or cds anymore. I can still burn a data disc though for some reason but nothing else. It gets about halfway through the burn and then fails. I've always used sonic record now to burn and it used to work fine. I've tried several different types of media so I know that's not the problem. Also whenever I put any kind of disc into the drive it will recognize the disc but dosn't recognize when I've removed it. The drive still thinks the disc is in there and I have to reboot to get it to go away. Device manager says the drive is working properly but obviously this is not the case. I havnt installed any new programs lately that would have caused this problem and have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers. What do I do? Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!
how old is the drive ? it may be shot try a firmware update to see if that helps also try a better burning program like nero ,dvd decrypter etc. sonic isn't that good
The drive is only a year old and and I can still burn a data disc but that's it. I have the latest firmware installed and Sonic has always worked with no problems. I know the burner is still good I just can't figure out what could be messing it up. Is there a way I can completely uninstall the whole drive and reinstall it? Are there any viruses or spyware out there that can be causing this??
...I don't know if this means anything but this shows up in the error message I always get: Sense: 03 ASC: 0C ASCQ: 00 (Command 2A) ------------------------------------------------------- px.dll: 2.4.35.500 pxdrv.dll: 1.1.55.0 pxmas.dll: 2.4.35.500 pxsfs.dll: 2.4.35.500 pxwave.dll: 2.4.35.500 pxwma.dll: 1.0.0.3 Also the burns always seem to fail at the exact same spot everytime with 2min and 50sec remaining on the burn and if it was an audio cd I was trying to burn, even though the burn failed, I can play the few songs that were actually written to the disc
try a firmware update. what media are you using? might try better media like Taiyo Yuden and or Verbatim. and burn at a slower speed no more than 8x on dvds and 32x on cds
I agree with aabbccdd! Try another media! Personally I use Verbatim as usual! And burn speed must be slowest! 4x is the best! Yeah, it’s very slow but quality will be good! Good luck!
Try to go to control panel to perormance and maintenance to see bacic information about your computer click hardware tab click device manager then go down to DVD/CD Rom drives right click to highlight it and uninstall it restart your PC
