OKAY. So i've read up and undserstand the NEC 1300A is a piece of garbage with lots of bugs. Most sites suggest getting a firmware upgrade. I did this and the software is totally useless. It pops up a screen asking me to name the drive, with a selection bar but has NO selections in the bar. Then I read that you have to load it onto a blank floppy disk first and reboot your computer.... I dont have a floppy disk. I dont even have a floppy disk DRIVE! When I burn on DVD-RW's using CloneDVD2 it seems like it copies perfectly, but wont play on ANYTHING. Panasonic DVD player, mac laptop, XBOX 360 or even the PS3!! I read that this could be that DVD-RW's arent very compatible with most dvd players, so I go out and buy a bundle of DVD R's and it gives me the MEDIA READ ERROR or whatever!!!!I cant update my driver, I cant afford another burner... My lord, any suggestions? I've been up for 27 hours straight trying to figure this out cuz when I cant do something I get frustrated and keep trying and trying. PLEASE someone pro help. Please. -Bryan-
An nd-1300 that still attempts to work? .. strewth.. I'm very surprised. here is everything you need to know.. http://forum.rpc1.org/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=29619&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&sid=879ddbe4747182bcb39e7f33e6c34b0e but please take note of the 2003 dates on all the posts.. it's an obsolete antique of a drive and I would say even the updated firmwares (last I saw for it was dated 2004.. 5 years ago) aren't going to help much with new media.. I have flashed dead 1100 and 1300 drives with the windows flashers and the linux methods successfully, but they didn't help any.. the drives were dead, that's why I experimented with them. note: .. nec drives up to and including the 3550a won't burn a d/l disk a 360 will accept.
Not at all what I wanted to hear buddy... but thanks for giving it to me straight. Yeah I saw the last update was over a half decade ago... unfortunately this is my father in laws comp and theres not a lot I can do about it. Is it hard and expensive to stick a new dvd-r in here?? If its just buy, plug and play I might be able to talk him into getting one. Please let me know what a good one to get would be and how hard it is to install. I appreciate your help a TON MAN!! U've officially made me give up on this fruitless mission. I owe you. -Bryan-
moved to correct forum. he is actually a she. i presume the pc is a tower, correct? http://www.pcityourself.com/index.php http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/step-12-configure-the-hard-drive-cd-rom/ http://www.pcmech.com/byopc/step-14-install-the-cd-roms/
As I think it's well past it there is no harm experimenting with it..... flash the latest ND-1300 firmware which is the 1.0C. http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/1300/ If your media is still not supported, then you should search on how to use Media Code Speed Edit (MCSE) and DVD Identifier to customize the firmware by swapping Media ID (MID)'s and then reflashing the drive. http://ala42.cdfreaks.com http://dvdidentifier.cdfreaks.com/ I would especially have a play about with this http://ala42.cdfreaks.com/MCSE/ mainly because it's writing ok to rw disks which are slower, so I would think that having a tinker with the drive speed settings might enable it to at least see 16x disks. I doubt it will do a working d/l burn whatever you try.. it's just too old. http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/ The nec owners bible.. no harm experimenting.. cleaning the optics can't hurt either. New burners are dirt cheap these days.. strange to think that you can buy 4 new ones for the price of the old 1300 when new... I quite like the samsung ones, but for 360 burns you should look at the (equally dirt cheap) pioneer drives.
