Personally I would go with the Pioneer - great drives and one of my personal favs.

Check the minimum requirements for the drive too. There's a few burners out there that have imo kinda high requirements. If you have a new laptop though that shouldn't be a problem.

That particular model seemed to have some bad reviews. Did you see that?

    Thanks so much.

Nope didn't read them first - glancing through them some gave good ratings and some didn't. Newegg only has one review for it - link.
I have 2 Pioneers drive though both internal. One is over 3 years old and was used heavily - I still use it. I'd still lean towards the Pioneer but if you feel more comfortable with reviews than looks like the LG has the better ones on BB.

This thread may help some - link

    Pioneer is the "cadillac".

    Sony is a close second.

I don't go by reviews. I go by experience.

There are lemons in all brands. IMHO, Pioneer and Sony have consistent quality.

    I have owned 5 Sonys, 2 Pioneers, and 4 Lite-Ons.

All worked well, but the Lite-Ons failed much earlier than the Sonys or The Pioneer.
