I had dvd decryter and dvd shirnk. It was wonderful. It was so easy. Now that I had to reformat the computer and wasn't smart enough to save the thing. I have lost it forever.I didn't know that I couldn't just go download it again. So I now have img burn. I hate it I can't get it to work and I went to their forum and they talk so over my head that I just don't understand.I thought maybe someone here could help me. I have done just as I have for 100's of other dvds I burned. I strip it with DVD Shrink into an iso and save it then load the img burner and try and copy it.All I get is a bunch of errors. Firmware update for NEC from 1.05 to 1.07. http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=2157 CMC media is not a good choice. The best media depends on your writer and firmware. Most of the time I use Ritek RiData R03. Most here will tell you to buy branded (made and sold by the same company) media made in Japan. Verbatim, Sony, Taiyo Yuden are top quality. Next is the writing speed. The rule is to burn at half the rated speed of the media. I burn at 4x only. If I was in a hurry 8x. You can get away with 16x for the top quality media, but it is still not the best choice. The CMC may work at a slower speed. There is nothing wrong with Imgburn but if you still want DVD Decrypter. http://www.soft32.com/Download/Free/DVD_Decrypter/4-75586-1.html
Thank you 56delray. I went and got dvd decryter, just because I was more familur with it. I still have the same issues., so your saying that my problem is the blanks I'm using are no good and I am using too fast a speed. Right? I guess I'm just outta luck then until I can get more. I just got this 100 spool a few weeks ago. lol Figures. Thanks again though.
I would also suggest using ImgBurn for burning, because it is Dvd Decrypter's burn engine still being updated. I would also advise cutting your burn speed back to 8X, try another slower burn with that media & if it fails post back a burn log which both Dvd Decrypter (if you have it checked) & ImgBurn (by default) create. I have used a lot of different media, some described as crap, but they still burn & play, just won't last that long. For my keepers & not testers I use TY or Verbatim's.
Edit. W 13:45:06 Failed to Write Sectors 0 - 31 - Power Calibration Area Error That is the root problem which hasn't been pointed out. A couple of the causes and solutions were pointed out, but there's more. No amount of software changing will cure it. @56delray Good call on the problems shown in the log.
PacMan777 is right about the other causes of a Power Calibration Area error. However, the blanks are the most likely cause. If you get them to work, they may still not play well in a stand alone player. Plus they may not last for a long time. That being said, a number of the 100 you have may work. If you do use them, you should limit the size of the DVD to the 4300MB to 4400MB range. Shrink has a default of 4464MB.
Talk about the pot calling the kettle black. Pacman777, lets edit our post when it's the last one in the thread mmmmkay. You aren't the only one at AD. As for identifying where a thread goes wrong, I see two posts from the original poster and several from the rest involved in this thread. Why would we continue regurgitating information to someone who has probably moved on? Until the OP returns with an update I don't expect anymore "essay" length posts, especially in response to my post.
LOCOENG Will an apology suffice? I edited all my posts leaving only one very concise point. Part of the material removed was helpful information on diagnosing power calibration errors. I'm not here to argue though. Excuse me for saying it wasn't appropriate to suggest one's favorite software to solve power calibration errors.
Hey guys, thanks so much for all the info. I have tried changing the write speed down to 8 and that didn't do anything. I won't be able to get more disc until I get money. Hopefully7 tomorrow.I did find out that not only did I get 100 crappy hp dvd's but I also bought the dvd-r instead of the dvd+r. :0 I don't know what I was thinking, well I wasn't apparently. I will get the blanks soon and try again with all your help to burn again and post my results. Until then thank you all very much and happy turkey everyone. Oh and btw, I did go get the dvd decrypter. Now I have both. I figured when I get something working right I will see which one I like best. Thanks again. Jeannie
as long as you're using good quality blanks like Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim the DVD dash R will work just as well as the DVD plus R format. I use the TY DVD dash R with great success
Jeannie48 ZoSoIV makes a good point. Unless you have equipment that won't work with a particular format, one is as good as the other. Did you update the firmware and clean the drive head? Many stores sell cleaner discs that do a good job for the optical head. It's like the old CD cleaners, only the DVD cleaner has a video test pattern, at least on the one I have, a Philips. If you're lucky, you may be able to use those DVDs you bought. Like 56delray pointed out, the most common problem is the DVDs. But you can do the firmware update before buying more DVDs.
Hey guys. Sorry it took me so long. I just went last night and all I could get was the Memorex and so I blew out the dvd rw with some air and I am still looking for the cleaning disc I know we have a kit somewhere.
