    welcome to AD michelle,

here ya go..try this for starters:

    http://www.afterdawn.com/guides/archive/avi_to_dvd_avi2dvd.cfm

you CAN convert avi to dvd compliable format, but if you don't have a dvd burner...we might have a problem in the actual "burning process" onto a dvd5 (4.7gb blank dvd disc) :)

    good luck..hope that is a start~

well, did you purchase your computer from a brand name computer company? such as dell, gateway, etc.? another easy way to tell is just to go to your "my computer" and find the drive letter: for example, MY dvd burner drive is D:/ DVD-RW following it~

i assume that you have never burned a dvd before, so that would eliminate the possibility you have used such programs such as dvdinfopro (www.dvdinfopro.com) disc check utility, that program tells you your current drive as well as your firmware :)

another way to tell is going into "control panel"--->"system"====>"hardware"---->"device manager"---->"dvd/cd-rom drives" and seeing what is listed under the "+" sign to expand the tree~ :)

let me know what you find out...copy and paste the model number of whatever drive you have on there and i will look it up and confirm to whether you have a dvd-burner or just a dvd-rom player drive~ :)

Hate to tell you this but it looks like you only have a dvd-rom. It will read the dvd's but not write to one. I can't even find specs on it for cd writing - but maybe I missed it.
