Hi, I am a newbie to computers! I have just purchased a new computer with a DVD R/RW which has the software called sonic on it. I have downloaded a mpeg video from the net which i want to burn to DVD to play in my toshiba video/dvd combi player. I have managed to burn the video on to DVD (as a data disc) which plays back through my DVD drive but when it put it in the DVD player it does not recognise the disc. Looking at the manufacturers booklet for the DVD p[layer it says: "DO NOT play CD-ROM, CD-I and DVD-ROM in this player! It may not play CD-R, CD-RW, and DVD-R, -RW, DVD+R, RW in all cases due to the type of disc or condition of the recording. The recorded disc may not run as playback depends on the recording speed." I am using DVD+RW discs - is this why it does not work? Any advice on what I should do? Thanks in advance.
Sounds like your player doesnt understand what to do with the 'raw' mpeg. you burned it as a data disc so all the disc is an mpeg on dvd. Some DVD players dont know what to do with the raw mpeg since its not dvd material. Try converting the mpeg to dvd using one of the guides here @ afterdawn and reburn the disc. as for your dvdplayer, all those restrictions on what it Wont play, sounds like its time to get a "real dvd player" (one that supports DVD-/+R/RW)
