    This version of Nero contains a few bugs, I would uninstall it, run this clean tool to remove all traces
    http://ww2.nero.com/nero6/en/Clean_Tools.html

    and then install this older bug free version
    http://httpdl1.usw.nero.com/software/Nero6/Nero-6.6.0.18_no_yt.e

    Your firmware is one version behind, update from here
    http://www.memorex.com/downloads/software/JWS6.zip

    To burn DVDs you need a minimum of 512 megs (recommended), I would suggest you add a further 256meg, in the meantime dont multitask while burning.

    Sorry to inform you but these are horrible discs, try some verbatim or Sony that are made in Japan

    Lastly you are burning too fast, slow to 4X. Cheers

    BTW..edit out your serial number before someone pirates it(and your name)

    Thanks for your help! I appreciate your time. I did all that you said (uninstalled, clean tool, reinstalled bug free version, updated firmware, tried a slower speed), and I still got an error. I could only reduce the speed to 6x. When I go to burn a dvd, it looks like it starts burning but it only goes to 1% and then it fails. Do you think it has something to do with my virtual memory? I got some error about that the other day. I was not multi-tasking at all. It's weird because I burned a dvd with these cds the other day and everything worked fine. Now I'm getting errors. Here is my log file once again. Any help or suggestions are sincerely appreciated.

    mutterer,

    It appears to be a media problem, your still using the same brand of disks as seen here in your last log;

    10:22:40 AM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483
    Recorder: Memorex DVD16+/-DL4RWlD2, Media type: DVD-R
    [bold]Disc Manufacturer: CMC MA - G. AM3[/bold]
    Disc Application Code: 64, Disc Physical Code: 193

    This area of your log [bold](media specific field):[/bold]

    Media Specific [16..63]:
    [bold]00 60 00 10 20 30 40 50 - 00 00 00 21 00 00 00 00 .`...0@P...!....[/bold]
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................
    00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 - 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 ................

    shows that the burner does not contain the correct write strategy for the disks you're using as shown in [bold]bold[/bold] above. The burner is applying a generic write strategy and its not successful in doing so, I would suggest you dump the disks you currently have and get your self some verbatim disks and try those (or Sony DVD+R media) as suggested above.

    As always, don't burn too fast, stick to a speed of no greater than 1/2 the rated speed of the media.

    Cheers :)

    Hi, thanks for the suggestions. I just went to the store and bought some Sony DVD-R's. My friend told me to get the -R's because they are more compatible. I still get the same failed error message! What could this be?? I just don't get it, it worked for a few cds the other day and now it's giving me errors. It is a brand new dvd burner, I think I've used it three times. Any help is greatly, greatly appreciated. Thank you all so much. Here's my latest log file.

    I notice that apart from recommended burn speed you have implemented all changes, is this the SAME DVD you are trying to burn, please give us some details of the DVD thanks.

    I slowed the burn speed down as much as I can... 6x.

    I am trying to burn a dvd that I ripped with DVD Shrink. There's two different ones actually. I've tried both and get the same error message both times. I'm sick of ruining blank dvds! It's driving me crazy though.

    I have until 5/25/06 to take this burner back!! Should I? It was working fine the other day. Do you think it's just a low memory problem? I really don't know what else to do.

    @mutterer
    May not be much help but I would really try and free up some memory like Gwen advised. Disconnect from the internet and stop any virus/firewall protection while burning.
    Do you have another 2.0 usb port on the pc you can try? You're getting key not ready which may mean a problem with the connection.
    Do you have another PC that you can connect this drive to check it?

    Hi, thanks for writing back. I do appreciate it. I tried your suggestions. I took out the internet connection, shut down all processes that I could, freed up as much hard drive space that I could, and put the firewall on OFF. I still got the failed error message. I will post the log.

    After I tried to burn a dvd, I rebooted and burned a cd just fine. I don't know why it continues to give me problems with the dvd burning.

    Hi mutterer
    Well let's try another brand of discs - CMC as said above is the pits but Sony is usually good. Try some Verbatim. They are usually recommended by most drive manufacturers.
    The - R's are more compatible w/ older dvd players but if your dvd players accepts both formats (- or +) get either one.
    I'd still also try this drive on another pc. Best to try and rule out all possibilities.
    Keep us posted!

    I bought some Sony dvds and that's what I've been trying in recent attempts. Same old error every time. I just think it must be my computer... :( It's just weird that it did a couple and now it's not working. It did burn a cd just fine though. But I guess it's time for an update. I'm thinking about buying a laptop tonight and hoping it will just work on it. Feeling impulsive, better go check some out right now.

    Thanks for your help. If you can think of anything else, let me know!

    @mutterer
    Besides different trying different media & connecting the drive to another pc - try another burning software. What other ones do you have? That could help narrow down the problem further.
    Not trying to convince you to spend $ but laptops are nice :)

    I don't have any other software to try. This Nero Suite came with the dvd burner that I bought. I think it just must be my computer. I'm going to look for something new right now.
