Hi, I've decided to build my first computer and was hoping for some feedback on what I've decided so far. I've read through mysuperpc and mechBgon's guide and browsed the forums here and at anandtech to wet my feet before I take the plunge. This PC will be for video editing/watching and some games, playing lots of Guild Wars right now. Below is what I have so far, AMD Athlon 64 3500+ Venice 1GHz FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3500BPBOX - Retail OR AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice Integrated into Chip FSB Socket 939 Processor Model ADA3200BPBOX - Retail ASUS A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail GIGABYTE GV-NX66T128D Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail OR eVGA 128-P2-N368-TX Geforce 6600GT 128MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail As you might be able to tell, that list is all from newegg because their website is so easy to use. There are so many different brands of video cards that I was a bit uncertain which to choose. I just chose the 2 with the most positive customer feedback, hopefully users can provide more insight on that. I was planning to reuse what I could from my old computer, namely the case, hard drive, and dvd drives though I might have to get a new PS because I've read new mobos have a new wire configuration hookup. Also I'm not sure what my current PS is rated at. Any suggestions, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!
It all looks really good, but i must warn you; since this is the first time you've built a computer, MAKE SURE THAT EVERYTHING IS COMPATIBLE WITH EVERYTHING IT NEEDS TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH!!!! it is just a hassel when something doesnt fit and have to send it back, then buying the right one. My friend ordered all this parts at the same time and his processor was not compatible with the motherboard. So the heart of the computer was not compatible with its body.....sad sad story.
Not bad so far. Like the previous post make sure they are compatible and you should be fine. Check the CPU and the Motherboard sockets to see if they match.
Looks like a nice setup so far, you will need a power supply that is compliant with ATX2, get a good psu as a cheap one can cause you nothing but problems, if you can get the Gigabyte 6600GT with the heat pipe cooling
