Hi i just downgraded my dell inspiron 1525 from vista to xp home with sp2 and i cant seem to play games on it as i tried to install a kung fu panda demo witch worked in vista home basic but wont work in xp home sp2 and it says "hardware acceleration must be enabled to play this game. Verify that the video card's hardware acceleration is enabled, then try again." please help john
Right, it's always a bad idea to upgrade or downgrade a laptop because the graphics card will NOT have drivers for it in most cases. If you're lucky enough to have a laptop with an 8 or 9 series graphics card, then this will sort you out, if not, you can try looking on the Dell website or contact them asking if they have XP drivers for your graphics card, if not, well, it seems like you're stuck.
And your knight in shining armour delivers No, but in all seriousness, i think this should do the trick; http://downloadcenter.intel.com/dow...371.exe&DwnldId=17353&ProductID=2800&lang=eng
argh an error installing it saying "The driver being installed is not validated for this computer please obtain the appropriate driver from the computer's manufacturer.Setup will now exit." help please. john
i have found out what video card i have using this method: How can I find out which graphics card I have in my PC? The easiest way is to run the DirectX Diagnostic Tool: 1. Click "Start." 2. On the "Start" menu, click "Run." 3. In the "Open" box, type "dxdiag" (without the quotation marks) , and then click "OK." 4. The DirectX Diagnostic Tool opens. Click the "Display" tab. 5. On the "Display" tab, information about your graphics card is shown in the "Device" section. You can see the name of your card, as well as how much video memory it has. i have found out that i am using the Mobile Intel (R) 965 express chipset family. if you need any other data from the results please tell me as i have done the 2 test down the bottom of the page and they both say that it is working fine. john
*sigh* I. Hate. Laptops. OK, looks like you really will have to ask Dell about it; supply them with the link i posted above if you want, asking for them to provide their own version of the software on that page, giving them your chipset details (GM965), O/S version and laptop model, also stating your original problem.
i am not sure if they will be happy to help as i uninstalled vista they supllied and instaled xp but i will call and ask them on monday and get back to you thank you for your help so far. john
