please help with cd-r incompatibility.

    Hi, i just bought some hp cd-r's and everytime i try to burn something it says there's something wrong and doesn't complete the burn. the cds are cd-r 48x, and i have no idea what my cd-wr speed is...my laptop is a sony vaio grv550...are my writing speeds too slow? please help :(
