Hi, I'm a newbie... Just purchased Sony DRX 810UL w/ Nero Suite. At first was able to make DVDs w/ downloaded movies, just selected my Sony as "burn to" option. Now that is not even an option and I can only select burn to image recorder. Please Help Thanks, Kairpaq
Has anything been installed that changed the firewire or usb that it is hooked to. Try booting the computer without it connected then plug it in and see if windows finds it.
Tried rebooting... Nothing new is hooked up. Ejected the 810 UL and used it on my laptop. Seemed to work fine at first, now the 810 UL doesn't recognize DVDs for copies or burns. Weird... It seems as though Nero and/or the Sony aren't consistant...
can you not select your burner from the top right of Nero window, ie in the dropdown box where is says 'image recorder'
I can select image recorder, but it used to offer the option of selecting the sony 810 ul. not any more. i went to device manager and noticed that my burner wasn't showing up in the thread where the other hardware (the DVD Rom and CD-RW) showed, but rather in the USB thread as an unknown device. What I've done in the meantime: couldn't burn anymore on my desktop dell dimension 4550. i used my laptop inspiron 600m and it has worked ok. the only thing i've noticed that is funky and weird is when I try to use both my external hard drive and the burner on one computer, the burner now shows as an unknown usb device. at first it did not. couldn't get my desktop to recognize the burner after it showed as an unknown device, but could get the laptop to recognize it. i'll just use the laptop for now. thanks so much, creaky, for the help. i'm a newbie but i've learned a lot reading threads in this forum. question: what school major or subject allows people to learn to troubleshoot these types of issues and to read that script everyone posts? thanks a lot....
no worries. there's the problem with the USB showing as unknown. try uninstalling the USB device in question, remove the USB enclosure, then hook it up and it should ask for the drivers; make sure to install the correct drivers and you 'should' be good to go. USB gizmos are fantastic, but can be a pain in the bum when they go awol like this. as to troubleshooting, i guess PC's are the best place to start for anyone. i have been working with computers since i left school, so about 18years (gulp!). even now in my job (Unix Admin) i stumble onto problems or have other ppl's problems drop on my head so i just roll with it and usually get stuff fixed. so i'd say get involved with anything PC-related, it's all easy from there (well it's not, but it sort of gets easier)
thanks so much... i reinstalled the usb and my pc recognizes both the hard drive and the burner, but nero still does not recognize the burner. i will continue to burn with my laptop so that i can still use my desktop for other applications. i can't really use any applications while the burner is running because it slows down everything. this whole pc thing is frustrating, yet rewarding if you figure out how to fix the problem. i'll continue to read through forums, etc. almost changed my major to comp sci during freshman year, but decided my reason wasn't good enough (just wanted free computer & internet use 24/7). thanks again...
