this has been going on a week now and I can't seem to figure out what the heck is going on. My laptop has tmpgenc plus 2.5 installed on it from the previous owner and has the serial number. I don't believe I ever used it previously. Everytime I use I get audio, but no video- just a blackscreen. I downloaded the trial version just in case the one I had installed was corrupted or something, but same results. I downloaded the direct link from videotools and I get video using the tmpgenc link, but no audio! I also downloaded the trial version of tmpgenc express, fine, but I don't want to buy it because I believe the plus 2.5 version is better. I do get a message sometimes (plus version) saying that I need to install dvd software to view the video, but like I said, in the express version I can see the video, what gives? Any ideas as to what is happening? did I "tick" something I shouldn't have in the plus versions? Should I just uninstall them and then download them again (hopefully the sn works) thanks!
Tmpgenc seems to have lots of problems, especially after 2.5. I only hope you can roll back to 2.5. I would not purchase this program they way it is currently designed, especially in light of the spywarish reauthorization feature it now uses in order to be able to run it. As far as the seeing/not seeing video, I suspect (though am not sure) that the non-express versions rely on your installed MPEG-2 demuxer, and that's either screwed up or misset. You can probably solve this problem by downloading and installing a K-Lite Mega codec pack. In any case, when you install it, look under MPEG-2 demuxer and select "Mainconcept" if available. I suggest doing that for all other MPEG-2-related options. Then install with leaving everything else at it's defaults. If necessary, uninstall the new versions of Tmpgenc you installed, but try it first before uninstalling if you haven't already.
thanks dunker, I just installed the klite like you said, but I get the same results, black screen. tmpgenc also still says that I need dvd software to playback. No clue what is happening. I also notice that almost everytime, if I check the system(v+a) stream type, tmpgenc almost always changes it to ES (v+a) when I encode, don'tknow if this has anything to do with it.
I just used g-spot to see what decoder I needed to see the eported video, now the tmpgenc that I converted(and can't see) doesn't even show up when I browse for it using g-spot. However, when I select the original exported avi from premier pro, g-spot says that "Codecs are NOT installed". I can watch the video, so I don't get what g-spot means.
Um, is what you're trying to convert non-MPEG? I believe Tmpgenc is only designed for MPEG and a few other formats. There should be a tool installed when you installed the codec pack called MMCompView which will tell you everything that's installed. Below, I've included what's necessary for most DVD/MPEG-2 playback. BTW, it might also help if you have a copy of PowerDVD lying around to install or re-install it. As far as the AVI, if it works, great. GSpot details AVI files (but not MPEGs, reliably). Of primary interest to you is to look under Video and find the codec name. Look under Audio to find that codec name too. If both are installed, all should be ok, though it's possibly that GSpot is misreporting things. However, armed with MMCompView, you should have a clearer idea of what's installed and what's not. BTW, I forgot to mention, install Koepi's xvid and divx 6.3 if it turns out your file is xvid or divx, respectively. You can get them at www.codecs.com. ES (v+a) does make a difference. If System (v+a) isn't available then that suggests to me that something still isn't right with your system demuxer. However, ES is supposedly better (I think this uses Tmpgenc's internal demuxer). One way you might be able to test this theory is to open Tmpgenc and manually demux your file. ================================================== Display Name : AC3 ACM Decompressor Description : AC-3 ACM Codec Version : 1, 21, 0, 0 Company : fccHandler Filename : C:\WINDOWS\System32\ac3acm.acm Product Name : AC-3 ACM Codec Disabled : No Type : Codec (Audio) Size : 118,784 Created Date : 5/20/2006 12:30:33 AM Code : msacm.ac3acm ================================================== ================================================== Display Name : AC3 Parser Filter Description : DirectShow MPEG-2 Splitter. dunker, thanks so much for your help. I export to movie in premier pro- that makes an .avi and then try to use tmpgenc. From your first sentence, this may not be correct? It is what I always do with WinAvi with no problem, so thought it was the same process. the only thing I don't have using mmcompview is "Mpeg-2 sections and tables". It is in my system32 folder, but mmcompview doesn't report it as present.
dunker, Demuxing..... not exatly sure what that is and I'm trying to check it out. I tried going into Environmental Settings, General, and ticking "enable multiplexing with "mux://filename" for video/audio source". Is this what you meant by manually demuxing the file?
ok, demuxing, I just read up on it, I tried it manualy in the video streams box, but tmpgenc usually turns it back to v+a
I just tried in exporting my project in premier pro using the adobe encoder function, I chose Mainconcept and the encoder and everything worked fine. I still would like tmpgenc to work for me, but is it better thant the adobe encoder? I'm still fiddling with tmpgenc.
