    Hi slangyung
Looks like the latest firmware for you external drive is 1.08.
    http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_firmware.php?download_id=1615

That should help the drive recognize and write correctly to the 16x Sony's. Hopefully will take care of the device not available error too.
    .
Probably won't help the burn failure but better to have your drive's in DMA mode. Here's a guide:
    http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/260038
512mb in memory would be best - add more if you can. In the mean time keep as much free as possible. No multitasking and shut down any unncessary programs.

Try those and let us know how it goes.

Update firmware to 1.08 from here http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pio/pe/images/portal/cit_3424/73813268DVR106D_FW108.exe

It is recommended to have a minimum of 512 meg RAM for burning, dont multitask while burning and consider adding a further 256meg.

Discs not recognized by burner, firmware update should solve this

Hi, I'm going to try this out, in the meantime God Bless You....
and THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR HELP!!!!!

p.s. I believe it is the fault of spyware that has done this to my burner, because I recently cleaned my pc with several spyware programs and I think I did a windows update somewhere in there too.

Okay, I will try this out and post my results after I come back from work.

    @slangyung
    No problem
Try this out and let us know how it goes - good, bad or otherwise.

You need keep the pc clean so run spyware, antivirus & firewall.
Getting a worm, virus etc can mess thing up. So best to use some good progs and have them running and updated.
Keep up on the Windows updates - they're always fixing things.

Hi guys, it's me again, I downloaded the firmware today because I was out buying an additional 256 ram from the original seller, but to my luck it doesn't work when i add it right beside the original 256 ram. What it does it when I turn on my computer after I firmly clicked it in is that my monitor doesn't turn on, well it does turn on but it doesn't work (or get the signal, it stays with the orange light, doesn't turn green).

Anyways I downloaded the firmware that Binkie suggested and installed it but again that pesty device not installed comes on. Here's my latest log:

I beliebe the 80% of memory in use is from the nero program I suppose...

But I hope my problem is fixable, should I download an older nero??

    Hi slangyung
It sounds like the ram may not be compatible or maybe a bad stick.
    Check that w/ the shop.

The memory in use - is still high. I don't think it's mostly Nero though. Look in your system tray (bottom right hand corner) and shut down anything there that doesn't need to be running - antivirus, spyware (disconnect from internet 1st), any im's etc.

The Pioneer is an older drive - max burn speed is 4x and last firmware update was from 10/04 so the 16x speed media may be the problem.
But Nero can also be picky (no matter what version) w/ some set up's and external burners.
So here are some other suggestions.
Disconnect the drive from pc and power. Plug back in and if you have another 2.0 usb port - try that one.
Try another burning programing - to see if it's Nero or not.
Depending on what your are trying to burn you can try imgburn 2.0 (free)
    http://www.imgburn.com/

Try those and let us know how that goes.

Hi Binkie, thank you so much for your help, all I did was change my USB port and bam, it burnt perfectly. The reason I'm using Nero in particular is because I'm trying to burn Data. Does ImgBurn do the same?
Also I have the yellow windows updater shield in the bottom right section of my taskbar and I'm wondering how to get rid of it. This is because I think once I clicked it and I got some spyware from the update?

Anyways, once again, thank you so much for your help, and may others follow your kind steps.

    No problemo slangyung :)
Txs for posting back switching the port fixed it.

Any more questions you know what site come to :)

I think you're pretty safe with the windows update - I have never received any spyware, worms etc from Microsoft updates. Best to keep the all up to date.

Hmm does imgburn do data - they justed added a new feature I'll have to play with and see what I can come up w/ on data.

    Happy Burning!

    Well, maybe he got WGA.

I wouldn't use Windows Update with things the way they are now. Get Firefox or Opera and use Windizupdate.com. I would discontinue using Internet Explorer for ANY web browsing if you currently use it, and turn off Automatic Updates (or, at least, Automatic Download and Installation - again, avoid thingsl ike Windows Genuine Advantage, etc.)
