    Hi all.

Ok, I am totally new here and have used 321 studios DVDx copy effectively with the exception of The Grudge. I have spent the better part of today reading forums, downloading DVD programs and still have not had a successful go at backing up this film. I tried DVDx copy (gold) with Anydvd running in the background. This is the best I attempt I had. The disc made it through the reading disc phase and then went on to burning the Disc but it did not show the time remaining or the time elapsed. The only sign that it was doing anything at all was that it kept adding the little green bars and the percentage completed to show that it was indeed working. Come to find out though that it didn't work cause when I put it in my DVD player it said "this type of disc can not be played" or would totally freeze up and I would have to shut it off and try again. I use DVD R+. I am guessing this is the problem but wanted confirmation on this. I think I need DVD -R but am not sure on this. I have never had this happen before but the CSS and autorun video protection and all that other crap is really peacing me off. Please make me some suggestions. I also tried DVD shrink but it wouldn't recognize that there was a disc in my E drive. THANKS for the hemp/help

Try using DVD-R media & see what happens. Some older dvd players don't read +R very well.

Also don't burn faster than 4 X speed. The faster you buirn the more errors you'll get.

Hope this helps somewhat. You'll be hearing from some more senior AD members soon.

    Good Luck

I've heard of a few people who had conflicts with anydvd and dvd x copy. Maybe you should rip the movie with DVD Decrypter, that should take care of it. And yes, do what dabig says about burn speed and good media, although I think dvd x copy doesn't allow you to adjust burn speed, so that may not be possible.

Hi and I hope you enjoy your AD experience,

Check out the software link and download DVDDecrypter

then check out these sites, the guys are members, and the guides are great, I think the best way to use them is print off the one you need at the time and practice with a RW disc.

With the media problem, because there are so many fakes on the market
the importance of a genuine supplier is essential.
    ask on the media forum

DVD identifier is also a usefull free tool.

    enjoy your burning :)

thanks for all of the feedback. Wow, quick reply times. I'm impressed. So here is the thing. I already have DVD decrypter and was using a DVD RW disc to try and catch The Grudge on DVD. However, when DVD decrypter does its thing (encoding the DVD), it only encodes the current movie on the disc. I don't know how to get it to copy a new film (the grudge). Also, it does the same thing when doing the quick analyze of the movie. It only recognizes the film already on the disc. I don't know how to get it to recognize the grudge and analyze and encode that. Please reply. THanks.

wow, replying to my own reply. Yikes. Sorry, I mistyped or mispoke however you want to look at it. I was to say that when I use dvd shrink it won't recognize the new disc for the analyze feature and won't encode the disc The Grudge. Sorry for the confusion.

LOL I thought I'd never heard of that problem.

DVD Shrink is a little out of date for the Grudge.
The latest version of DVDDecrypter should rip it, see scubapetes guide on force ripping.

this tool has an option for erasing discs at the top and is more than usefull [free of course:)] http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

    good luck.

Ya I had trouble with this film also ...but finally got it to work ...I used DVD Decrypter to rip the entire dvd, with anydvd running in the background...then if you want to shrink it like I do with most of my dvds ..I only want the main movie..just personal preference ..I use dvd shrink to just get the main movie ...but rip the entire dvd with dvd decrypter first ....As for the media I have been using maxell dvd-r and +r for almost every backup I have made in the last 2years and never had any trouble yet...have found that some dvd rw discs do not play in certain dvd players....hope this helps a little ...good luck..

shows what Best Buy knows I suppose, AKA, not much. Their reps always tell me that Memorex is a top-quality item. Not so after reading good old Uncle ScubaPete's DVD tutorial on DVD Shrink. Needless to say, I still somehow made the thing go phooey even after a careful reading of his guide. I still seem to only be able to have the movie that I initially burned on the disc. It won't burn anything new even though i'm using a RW disc. MFer. Any help, scuba steve or uncle Pete.
    LOL.

here we go again. Grr, I am so fruckin' mad that my DVD drive, anydvd, decrypter, and Dvd shrink right now. Need some time to vent ... ok, done. So, ya, what the heck am i doing wrong. I seem to have the ISOP file or whatever it is store fine on the HD but what is tripping me up is the part about select target folder for DVD output files. This is when I go to open up the folder and then all of a sudden it starts in with encoding the movie written on the disc (I am so sick of seeing Me, Myself, and Irene appear on minature video) everytime I go to have the file analyzed and encoded. I need Help.

Right after a few hours sleep, lets start again.

I had a strange problem, with the an earlier version of Decrypter, instead of the rip going into the VIDEO_TS file on the desktop, after some trial and error I found it was going into a C:\New.ISO file or a C:\New.MDS file.
Accessing one of these files would produce the correct rip.

No-one else seemed to have this problem, and it was no biggie, so I put it down to a conflict of programs.
although I've seen the odd thread crop up on other forums

When I downloaded a later version of Decrypter, things went back to normal.

This may or may not solve your, problem, however make a note of where Decrypter is sending your rip and access that.

the current version (3.5.4.0) is absolutely fine for the Grudge. I then used DVD Shrink afterwards to do movie only
