Welcome to the forum cneste, and please use edit button on side of your post and edit out your Nero SN number, would not want anyone to steal it. The one beginning 1Axxxxx. :~)
cneste , You are burning too close to the edge. Make Target size Custom and the number to the right if that change to 4300 7:40:07 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 260 Last possible write address on media: 2298495 (510:46.45, 4489MB) Last address to be written: 2286095 (508:01.20, 4465MB) Looks like the burner is having a conflict as it indicates Hardware error. Check the burner and while you are at it verify the cables are good Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x04 (KEY_HARDWARE_ERROR)
cneste Car.Mike is correct about checking your cables, Nero indicates this is indeed some kind of hardware conflict From Nero FAQ's http://www.nero.com
Thanks for the reply. I have had this setup for a year before this happened. I have tried different media with the same results. I tried to slow down the speeds and been trying to copy a new dvd that I have purchased and wish to backup. I have never had a problem with this drive. I have disassembled the dvd unit and cleaned the optics with 99% alcohol . I have reinstalled the unit and will now delete all my dvd software and try again. I can read dvd's and burn cd's as well. Does this info help any? I will post in about an hour with a followup Thanks Chuck
cneste, The cables could be twisted or kinked up or even a small short and you can buy the cables for next to nothing. Open the case and see if there is a kink in the cables and also make sure the cables are properly seated on the MOBO and DVD burner. If there is a kink you should be to purchase the cable for less than $5.00 US. Also please Delete the line in your original post that starts w/ 1a20 ( 6th line down )
I have plenty of cables!. I started out on a TRS 80 model III . I have accumulated alot spare parts since then . I am burning a disc as we speak. I have reseat all cables including the internal ones in the drive. All clean and happy now. I have removed alot of debris from the optics. We will wait and see if my burner is cooked! Chuck
Maybe the power supply is going out. Do you have access to another PC to try the burner in? Or another power supply to swap out? The burner uses seperate lasers to burn CDs DVDs, so being able to still burn CDs isn't that uncommon. Also just for the hell of it try different media. Better to have to replace media than hardware.
Burner is now burning . I set the speed for 4x even though I can burn at 8x. Cleaning the drive's optics and cleaning the internal drives ribbon cables has now made a difference and I am now burning When the burn failed, The disc were not turned into coasters and Nero showed them as blank discs. The disc being written to right now has failed twice in the past. I will update this post as I will try to burn tomorrow at Max speed on the few different media( HP, Maxwell and yes, staples) Thanks for the quick replies Good Night! Chuck
you shouldn't burn faster than 4x anyway, so I'd just leave it at that. Faster than 4x has high probablilty for error
@cneste, Since most of the members already gave you enough of helps and your issue is almost solved. However, I strongly deem that the blank media you're using is not so good, or it's not even in the "medium/standard" class in regards to today's DVD-R/+R media technologies. With that being said, it's not one of the top quality media in the market and it certainly is outcast from the class of "recommendation" media list by the majority of the more knowledgeable members at afterdawn.com. Additionally, please use good quality media such as FUJI/TY, Verbatim, Maxelland SONY (make sure it says "Made In Japan") whenever you're going to do your next DVD movie or PS2 games back up. I can assure you that you'll be more than happy with your burning collections down the road, if only you "stop" using "Memorex" or any other "unknown brands" and use the recommendation medias as I'd stated above. However, the choice is yours to make -- either getting more "coasters" or "successfully" burned. Just a note to drop in here that's all.
@cneste - looks like everyone sorted you out. but it looks like you're still using cables from biblical times (ie from the TSR-80 era). You will need slightly more up to date cables, ie 80pin. see here for the differences between olde worlde cables and modern 80pin - http://www.pcguide.com/ref/hdd/if/ide/confCable80-c.html As to media, it seems you are using THE worst media there is, and said you would be doing max speed on HP, Maxell and Staples. Max speed is not a good idea for movies, some people do 8x on top notch media and top notch systems, however most people don't do this but keep doen to 4x, otherwise too much chance of errors in the final copy. It's your money etc, but HP don't make their own discs and use the cheapest nastiest manufacturers out there, Maxell i believe are top notch, but Staples (and other store brand media such as Memorex, Imation etc) should be avoided at all cost (ie your cost!), and our cost otherwise you'll be back here with more problems later on due to crap media. alkohol has been very kind in his description of CMC Mag media!, it is just about the most evil kind of rubbish out there. He has recommended some top notch media there. I would urge you to take note of his recommendation, and i would like you to visit the 2nd link in my signature, a tribute to Memorex/CMC, then skim thru the 1st link in my sig. You see i don't have burning/playback problems anymore, period, as i stick to a few rules and use top quality media such as Verbatim [bold]datalifeplus[/bold]
well put creaky and alkohol~ i would highly suggest you take heed in their suggestions on media~ the list is fairly close to what i would recommend as well, actually, add in creaky's Verbatim suggestion and you have MY list of good quality media~ CMC MAG is the worst you can possibly deal with, just want to save you some headache down the road, use good media...u will be delighted that you did~ p.s. much like creaky, i haven't had a burn problem/issue in over a year since i've switched to TY and Verbs, they have been very dependable and most will agree are TOP TIER stuff~ i HAVE gone through approx. 6 different drives, but the media recommendation has stayed the same, flawless backups each and every time.
I appreciate everyone's comments but I am using a 2.6 ghz system with 384 mb of ram. My cables are fairly new. I dont think that a trash 80 stuff will work *lol* I have used all different type of media with no problems. Its just recently the burner died and does not copy BUT the disc are not coasters. The burner will either copy all or nothing. It failed this morning and has been unreliable so I will buy another Burner. Thanks Chuck Neste
@cneste, that's always good news if new hardware is on the cards. However are you going to check out decent media, as a few of us are suggesting, or get a new burner and stick with mostly dire media. Pls read the 2nd link in my sig as buying 100s of the same (cheapy) brand of media does not make financial sense
I buy usually lots of 25. I rarely had a coster but after a few hundred burns, I guess It is time to upgrade.I do use fuji, Sony and verbatium( I used verbatium in the mid 80's as 5 1/4 " floppies and used a hole puncher to make them double sided ) Is pioneer still a good unit to buy??. I have retried to burn again and it automatically went to 1x speed?? This unit is "loco". Thanks Chuck
