I've been getting about 2x out of DV-Rs, despite media switches and called Plextor for help, synopsis is below: Tech rep said the problem is with my DVD burner being listed as "ULTRA DMA MODE 2" instead of MODE 4 or above. My Hard Drive is MODE 5 on the primary EIDE channel. and told me to uninstall the drive to see if it would be "recognized" on restart as a higher mode #, it didn't, tried again, it didn't so then he gave up and told me there was a problem somewhere else, but couldn't help me. Here is my question, which I didn't ask him last night, when I installed the drive I used the same cables that came with my DELL, could this be the problem? The cables looked the same to me so I just changed the Plextor to master and the NEC (DELL) CD-R to slave off it. Is this the real problem or does it lie somewhere else before I start pulling cables. Thanks in advance, Seahawk02
Hi there, I am not saying it won't work (Master / Slave), but Dell computers prefer "[bold]Cable Select[/bold]" on all devices. http://www.portmac.com/modules.php?name=Check_Enable_DMA Make sure DMA is enabled, as you did. Then you can do Read Benchmarks with CD Speed http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroCDSpeed_460.zip
seahawk02, on that Plextor drive theres a lock on the read/write speed you need to go into the settings and unlock it. there was a thread on that awhile back . here read this http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/388303
