    Black Plextor PX-716AL 6x Double/Dual Layer DVD, 8MB Buffer
    165$ at directron.com

I wanted to get a good DVD reader/writer how good is this and should I worry about scratchs and stuff from the slot load design?
THis is the IDE version I think they have a white version normal tray SATA altho I dotn think SATA is that much faster than IDE *L*

    Hi,
It's the best you can buy.
    No.
Either IDE or SATA are both brutally fast :^)
When you consider that 8x DVD is ~10MB/s, you realize that a 2MB buffer is just inadequate - what's that, 200 milliseconds of data it will buffer? Not enough.
Most Plextors contain both ivory and black faceplate and tray (well I guess you don't worry about the tray with slot-load, LoL :^)
Burners are mostly cheap plastic junk these days, but Plextors are good. Top support (firmware) from their website too...
    Enjoy
