Well so i bought my drive a little over a month ago and its already starting to die. I noticed a slight clicking sound which has gotten progressively louder and louder. And my burns have been failing more and more. I thot it was heat. But even after letting the drive cool down for hours it continues to be defective. I've eliminated all other possibilities since the computer is newly reformatted, not connected to the internet thus no viruses or wat not, im using verbatim DL disks, the newest dvd decrypter, and even copying brand new dvd's which i bought today at BB. And my burning % has dropped from 70% success to about 40%. Anybody else have this problem? And of course with my luck I tried to call plextor but they closed an hour ago. Does anybody know if i'll get a brand new drive? or a refurb?

You should get a new one. You should have a warranty as well. I think that I read that the 740 was a rebadged BenQ so it should be a good drive.

I disagree with you that Plextor 740 is suck. It is a good drive because I have it. It works great. The only thing bad is too much money. You can buy 2 BenQ drives with same amount of money for Plextor 740.
