Hello, I have a problem with my laptop computer. Before I used to watch copies of dvd's on my laptop normally. Suddenly since i went on holiday it won`t read them anymore. I did a system restore and a complete re-boot and still nothing. I installed the driver of DVD-R and when i put a dvd it would say that D:\ is not accessible. Incorrect function. Before I installed the driver DVD-R, when i put the dvd it would say that the dvd is empty but yet when i click on properties it says the dvd is full but the system file is RAW. The weird thing is that the same dvd plays on my sister's desktop and on other dvd players but yet i can't fnd a way to play it on my laptop. Please help. The Cd/DVD Rom is a TEAC DV-W28EAT. It says the device works properly too. Original Dvd's and software and audio play good, no problems. Just copies of my dvd's. Thanks, birba25
The most likely cause is the brand of media used or the firmware of your drive. I've searched for the model number given without any luck. How old is the drive? Perhaps there is a firmware update on the laptop manufactures web site? If it's older than 3-4 years, it may no longer be supported (firmware updates). Check the model number again and let me know.
hello thanks for answering and trying to help - I really appreciate it. When I try to check on th website it says that the firmare is up to date but you can check just in case as maybe there is something that I am missing. The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite M65-S809. I bought the laptop november 2005. The properties of the TEAC DV-W28EAT are: Driver Povider Microsoft. Driver Date : 7/1/2001. Driver Version: 5.1.2535.0. Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows Publisher. Driver Instance Id - IDE\CDROMTEAC_DV-W28EAT is 1.9B. Driver Files: (c:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers\AnyDVD.sys) ......the rest ending in... \cdrom.sys, \imapi.sys, \Help20.sys, \redbook.sys.... and last one.. (c:\WINDOWS\system32\storprop.dll. Hope this helps. Thanks again
I went here: http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/...BV_EngineID=ccccaddhlkmhlejcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0 and couldn't find anything on that drive. Maybe I'm missing something? I was also unable to find any firmware listing for that specific model. Again, maybe I'm missing something? Could it be a rebadged model? Try to go into device manager, delete the drive and re-boot. Allow Windows to reinstall the drive on bootup. See if that helps.
Hi again, by rebooting you mean restart the computer? unfortunately I cannot put in the re-boot disk of windows as I had a problem with it when I tried re-installing windows as it would not install - took it in for check up and the computer shop told me that the cd is scatched and they had to reboot it manually as they didn`t have a cd that is good for my american laptop. I am currently in europe for 3 months. Micrsoft seems to have an issue with USA and European windows cd's - something to do with the European Union..... so when they installed it manually it cost me quite a bit of money and they told me not to reboot it again until i am back in the states which should be sometime in august, so for right now I am stuck. I am not so sure about the windows cd being really scratched.... as i think it has something to do with this cd-dvd drive problem but when I told them about the problem, they told me the cd/dvd Rom works fine. I phoned Toshiba customer care a told them about the problem and they told me that they suspect it is a harware failure and to phone them when i am back in the states. Meanwhile I am trying to try to resolve the issue myself. I tried searching for an update of the driver unsuccessfully too. I guess I have to wait or keep trying stuff. Thanks again for your help. I also tied writing the TEAC company about the drivrs but got no reply so far.
Well, at this point, I don't know what else we can do. Seems your manufacture feels it's a failed drive which it could very well be. There was quite an issue over Windows and the EU a little while ago. Mostly having to do with Media Player. MS had to issue a different version of XP to resolve the issue. I suggest you get that drive replaced as soon as you get back. Myself and others will be more than willing to help, if needed.
