    Ok guys heres a mystery.

I have backed up close to 1k movies from my collection. (My kids and wife are VERY hard on discs to the point that I recently decided to build a media PC) My wife is a Professional Dancer/Dance Teacher and I have converted over 300 performances from Camcorder -> AVI -> VOB then use Shrink [and Nero] to fit and burn files onto DVD's. Im telling you all this to prove my chops and to show that I am not a noob.

I converted and burned an AVI last week succesfully and then we left for a week to go out of town where my wife taught a week long master class at a college. When we returned I did everything exactly the same but the discs will not play on my stand alone. The load play maybe 1/2 second then says the discs are scratched. [3 proven stand alone dvd players.] Yet they work on my PC just fine. [Tried 12 times now] I have tried the following:

-Different AVI files [even ones I that have worked before]
-Different Media [3 brands, all from stacks that have worked before]
-Tried backing up a DVD [Works great]
-Made sure DVD burner has current Firmware. [It does]
-Tried on 3 different Stand alone DVD players that have been proven to play both DVD+R and DVD-R.

I use a USB cable to bring the files over from the Cam.
[Cant be the problem because I tried AVI files that I converted and burned fine last week and they mess up also.]

I then use VSO DivxToDvd to convert to VOB files.
[I changed no settings and even uninstlled/reinstalled the program. Converted files play fine on the PC.]

I then use Shrink/Nero to put onto a DVD
[Again backing up a DVD works great, while converted AVI now VOB files only play for a fraction of a second then I get the scratched Disc messege.]

Any help would be great. Im at a loss here. I guess Ill bring my work computer home tomorrow and try to run them through on that. but what the hell could be causing this????

To touch another base, from Nero Tools select CD-DVD Speed tool and 'Scan Disc' to check one of the 'bad' disks.

100% good on the disc scan. Still isnt working for me. (Not that I have had that much time to work on it since my last messege). Ill try another converter tomorrow evening to see if that fixes it.
