Everyone has their own opinion re brand/models. From experience would suggest something along the lines of: Plextor Pioneer Lite-On These models tend to have a good reputation for quality and reliability. I use a Pioneer.
*moved from DVD-R newbies* My 2 cents. get the Plextor dual layer 716. Newegg has em for $99.99 right now. ($129.99 w/ $30 mail in rebate)
Those drives especially the plextor will support all formats except DVD-RAM which no normal user will find usefull.
would this be a good dvd-rw to get http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos...43959/sr=1-3/ref=sr_1_0_3/202-9046336-9183023
it would but that is an older model. It's the PX 712 which doesn't have the dual layer burning capabilities. The day dual layer media goes down, you'll wish you got the 716.
