Ok some of you may have seen my other posts and can tell Im a noob at this! I would really like to be able to burn this video montage I made on the net but cant figure out how to do it.. I guess I cant even figure out how to burn just my lil video clips. I did a test burn last night and it seemed to work but I tried to play it this morning and comp said it couldnt read it and that the cd may be currupted. I have the nero version 4 wich Im not familar with at all. When I first got this comp it took me a while to figure out how to burn a cd but I did it it had to be a .wav file instead of mp3. Well is it kinda the same thing with dvd? Does it need to be a certain format to work in dvd player, comp drive, or ps2? I am usually pretty comp literate so this has really got me frustrated! And I am having probs with the lightscribe too! I am going to do another test dvd today and see if I can figure anything out.. in the mean time feel free to post any advice you may have for a newbie like me... thank you so much for taking the time to help!
Standalone DVD players need files termed DVD compliant to be able to replay. Some will playback AVIs as well. Most don't. If you have MPEG files, you must use an authoring program to make the files DVD compliant. One such program is Nero Vision (part of the Nero suite of programs). Another commonly used authoring program is TMPGEnc Author. There are several others as well. Both Nero and TMPG have free trials but I think you already have the Nero program. Here's a basic guide for using Nero Vision: (guides based on Nero 6) http://home.comcast.net/~bbmayo/NVE Basics.pdf For backing up commercial DVDs, there are links to the guides and programs in my signature below.
Thanx for your reply! Ok did the test dvd today and it almosted finished burning but it spit dvd out and said.. sorry you cant write onto this type of cd. Please insert the correct cd or change your compliant settings. Ugh where in the world do I find my compliant settings and what do I change them to cause I am pretty sure I am using the right cd it is lightscribe dvd+R which is what the guy at the store told me would be compatible. Also I got the nero software with the hp dvd writer and I just cant seem to find nero vision got 2 other nero pro but they dont say that! One is like nero smart start.. is that what I use? That is what I was using to burn todays dvd.
Sometimes what is included with the burners is a "lite" version of Nero that may not include NeroVision. Is it Nero 7? There is a free trial of Nero 7 available at Nero.com if you don't already have it. If the error message said CD then maybe you were in CD project mode and not DVD project mode. Did you select Make a DVD Video or what? From your inital post I assumed you had mpeg files that you wanted to make into a playable DVD. Is this correct? Can you explain the source and nature of the files you have? If they are AVIs they have to be converted into DVD compliant files.
As laddyboy was saying, the file format has to match the media. VCD, SVCD, and DivX go well with CDs. For DVD you need DVD compliant files. DVD files don't record to CD. Where did these video clips come from and are you wanting to record to CD or DVD? By the way, if possible I'd suggest updating the software. Avoid the 6.6.1.4 version of Nero. The 6.6.0.18 version was more stable. I don't know if a newer version has been released or not. With Nero 7 working good, I upgraded to it. The Nero Vision 4 (in the Nero 7 suite) works well for a lot of file conversions, which may help with your projects. Just remember not to install the InCD, which is known to interfere with some video recording software. By the way, Startsmart is available with the different Nero versions. It's the easy start window on the desktop where you have easy access to the different Nero apps on your PC. At the top of the StartSmart window, you have a selection for CD/DVD, CD, and DVD. It's best to put Startsmart in the mode that coincides with the media.
If the error message said CD then maybe you were in CD project mode and not DVD project mode. Did you select Make a DVD Video or what? I selected make a dvd video. From your inital post I assumed you had mpeg files that you wanted to make into a playable DVD. Is this correct? The previous video montage that I wanted to burn was a mp4 file which I have no experience with those.. It was a montage I made on the net and dl but I can just make it in the nero prog and then burn it. The current video clips I was tryin to burn was avi files they are from my digital camra. If the error message said CD then maybe you were in CD project mode and not DVD project mode. Did you select Make a DVD Video or what? I selected the make a dvd video at the begining. Thats why I dont understand.. it went through all the steps and then right before it was supposed to be done it said that error message! Thanx for your posts.. I dont know how I did it cause I did the same thing today and it worked and I got the lightscribe to work too! But for some reason my cd rom drive does not want to play dvds anymore! I play them on the dvd writer now!
