I have no idea what equitment and how to solder this modchip my ps2 is open and ready for my modchip to be installed its a magic v plus and a v.9 Ps2 if anyone can guide me on a few things it'll be veryyyyyy much appricetated 1)what tools do i need to solder a modchip 2)what is soldering 3)how do you solder a chip to the board
Man Trying to research on it but its not the same as soldering a ps2 Wish the hip came with a guide these sites guides dont show much :-(
if you dont know the answer to all of these,[bold]do not attempt[/bold] to do it yourself search on the net for installation instructions.....print them off,and get a electrician to do it for you
I agree with Hursty. If you have never soldered before DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL A MODCHIP! you will screw up and ruin your PS2 Send it to a place like http://steelcityelectronics.com/ here is what they say, and from what i hear they do a top notch job. ALRADY HAVE A CHIP ? ANY CHIP YOU HAVE IN YOUR Version 4-12 PS2 $50 USD - Cust. supplies any chip 60 day warranty against any install related problems. note: there is no warranty on lasers or other part's not affected by an install or a repair . Price includes install/return priority shipping (continental u.s.)
good advice guys but i dont have that kind of money or any money for that matter and i would like to learn myself not always have to pay people for things that i can most likely do myself how did pros learn someone guided them
well you are going to have to spend some money anyways, you will need a smal tipped soldering iron, flux, and some solder for a start its up to you,but i know what my choice would be good luck, you gonna need it
ok thanks so much for the help you should be a mod i heard you can get those stuff at radioshack i only have a few dollars but it should be enough. one more question what are these 3 or 4 bendable pins that came with the chip for? and can you give me the exact name of the flux ? im sorry i know im a pain thanks alot
Bump... just need to know the exact details of the things i need to solder my ps2 i see more then 1 flux and solder can anyone help ?
Hurst and Steimy know what they are talking about. If you don't have any experience soldering, the fine detail SMT pins will be too much for a newbie to handle. I'm not saying you definitely can't do it, but replacing a PS2 motherboard because you fubared it up is much more expensive than paying someone to install the chip for you. Not to mention the cost of the tools (im assuming you don't have any of the tools) will probably be as much as an installation alone. If you really insist on doing it yourself just Google "learn to solder" or something. You need a fine pencil tip soldering iron (low wattage), some 60/40 rosin core solder, a desoldering braid, maybe a magnifying glass. All things you can get at Radio Shack.
