More people should petition for concealed carry (not sure if it's legal in California), and more people should take advantage of that. Until people fight back, shitheads will always take advantage of them in any way they can, including through murder.

    So true!

That was taken from a FAQ from the State of California Dept. of Justice.

Liberals (read Communists ) do not want decent people to have the right of self defense. Yet liberals (as the ACLU ) will fight for a confessed murderer. But this a debate more suited for Neph's Polite Gun Debate.

Aye, that they will. When everyone is armed, the criminals won't have the advantage and it will only be stupid people killing only stupid people.

    +1 for evolution.

@Auslander, I agree with you to some extent. But then on the other side, you have to look at how everyone being armed would affect our society. People would turn agoraphobic, children would be even less outside then they are now, etc. So although in an ideal situation, all decent people would have guns, so would all the indecent ones.

People would turn agoraphobic, children would be even less outside then they are now, etc. So although in an ideal situation, all decent people would have guns and know how and when to use them. But unfortunately, so would all the indecent ones.

Not at all. In the 60s, where I live, kids regularly drove to school with shotguns in the back windows of the trucks...Hell, the principle would come check them out and compare to his own. Gun safety used to be taught in schools. School shootings didn't start until this practice was long gone.

Way more people used to be armed, and no one thought about it...until people started trying to ban guns instead of having proper training programs to ensure that everyone who did have guns was trustworthy with them.

People who don't want guns have always been able to live without them. The problem arises when people start expecting everyone else who is capable of handling weapons to not carry them whenever possible.

Main Point: we didn't have problems with private gun ownership, or the gun crime we have on the current scale, until private ownership became uncommon. The only exception that comes to mind was the Mobster Era, but back them, gangsters had an honor code where they only killed other gangsters, not innocents, that was respected >99% of the time.

    *edit*
It's the indecent and violent people that do gun crime now. They never follow the law, anyway. If more decent people carried and dropped the pansy fear of what amounts to a tool no more dangerous than a hammer or saw outside of human hands, gun crimes on innocent civilians would drop to nearly nill.

    *re-edit*
theorizing here: shootings on random people, like at post offices, malls, and schools, has happened many times in history, but the only real incidence that comes to mind before the 90s was tower sniper at the university in Texas. But anyway, it wasn't until the lawsuit and legality crazes came around that people stopped being able to use their fists to work out their issues, shake it off, and go on with life. Now, if someone wants to let out their aggression, they can't. It becomes bottled up until one hits the point of insanity and takes out a crowd.

Moral of the story: Feminism, gay rights, minority rights, etc etc are all great and all, but in may ways, American society would be better off if it backed up several decades. There is a real case of i-should-be-able-to-live-however-i-want-but-you-can't-because-it-offends-me-itis going on. Wait...that's "political correctness."

    lol

Auslander, very true that society would be alot better if it backed up a few decades. Things seemed so much better as far as the quality and morals of people. What happened to the times when people would say hi with a genuine smile instead of flip you off everywhere?

Also on a side note, what's the significance of your sig pic? I really like it, although I don't understand German very well... Only had two years of it... Does it say "I can't live without you"? That's what I make of it anyway.

"Does anyone known who Charles Whitman was?"

"None of you dumb asses knows?"

    "Private Cowboy?"

"Was he the guy that shot a lot of people
    from a roof?"

"That's right, Private Cowboy. He shot and
killed twelve people from a 28-story observation
tower at the University of Texas, from distances
of up to four hundred yards."

Hmm, use to walk past that thing everyday back in school, always thought how shitty that must have been.

I don't know. This emo stuff is more of a 2005-present fad that has picked up since the school shootings dropped off. ...though, mall shootings have picked up. Emos tend to hurt themselves, though, which is fine by me. That's perfectly legal in most cases, and if you're only hurting yourself, I feel it should be legal in all cases.

I would honestly say it has to do with the degradation of the family unit and the fact that more and more people are foresaking religion. Even if a religion is wrong, it will still instill morals in the followers. As my dad puts it, "people today aren't God-fearing. They don't care what happens after they're dead. It gives them free reign to be assholes while they're alive."

The German line in my sig is quoting a Rammstein song, "Ohne Dich." It's one of my favorites. Quoting songs in my sig that few people know has been a pass-time of mine on AD for years now. The image itself is cropped from a large picture of an anthropomorphic wolf sitting fireside in some woods. Being a furry, I identify with this creature. I added in the blue butterfly because of a dream and subsequent discussion I had with my girlfriend. Basically, she was a blue butterfly in disquise and I was the wolf. Even more unrelated, but I plan on commissioning a painting of a wolf with a blue butterfly on its nose in moonlight as a present for our one-year, if I can swing it. :)

Horrible as it is to say, I'm grateful for people like him. They make me look sane, by comparison.
