    You, Sir, are infected.
Run Spybot S&D, Lavasoft AdAware, maybe TrojanHunter too.
Clean your browser cache, cookies and history, first.
Empty your Windows\Temp directory and your User temp directory, too.
Things in there that will not delete are bad news...
Set your browser cache small (30-40MB) I have seen some 300-400MB, LoL :^)
Install SP2 and get all the latest Windows updates.
Run a NAT router or at least Windows firewall (I use both).
When (if) you get your OS clean, take great pains to keep it that way. Be very selective what you install, avoiding Free Stuff and screensavers etc. like the plague...
Let us know what you discover ;^)
(the record is 800+ types of adware/spyware/trojans etc - and on that PC, NortonAV had no complaints about anything!)
    Regards

Don't forget the BHO driven pop ups. They will not be fixed with any spyware detection. You have to remove them yourself. There is no need to buy any anti-pop up program. The ones I use where all free and I have no pop ups. Already mentioned (spybot, Adaware and Microsoft anti-spy) If you have the latest Spybot or Microsoft anti-spy there is a way to view your installed BHOs in them.

Tinker1, go here to find the goodies:

    http://www.download.com/

DDP has the record with 1750; I had a customer recently with over 300 virus' and 1200+ spyware objects. ... it wasn't pretty. The home page was hijacked and popups galore. She had zero protection; no antivirus software or any firewall software or router running Windows XP home. The majority of it was from porn sites.

    Good luck, keep us posted.

Zone alarm would not have anything to do with your problem. You need to check the BHOs. Unless the one mentioned above will find bad BHOs I have not seen anything that even looks at them during a scan.

I have not tried that program yet but 4 could mean you have a bad one. I can see you having one from Spybot, Symantec or Real audio. Just take a look at them. You should be able to see what file it is from. If there is not information on it then get rid of it. Best thing to do sine there are only 4 is tell us what they are. Just the Path name. you know c:\lalalal\lalala.

The bad news is that you may have to reformat your computer. I fixed by formatting a friends computer, Norton AV, used Spybot innoculated it from 2,000 plus, Lavasoft etc. Six months later , I got it back . Its not running right , its slow , has pop ups. They took everything out. Spyboy , Nortons , everything. I took out almost a 1,000 " things" with Lavasoft and Spybot, but I could not get them all. No matter what I did I still had a few pop ups. The only thing left to do is format it again, and hope they leave the protection on this time......

The reformatting is not as hard as it seems... I Ghosted the drive before I gave it to them the first time. 30 minutes and they are back in business.

i only got this sony laptop 2months ago, so i wouldnt think i would need to format it!

    on the BHO it has

File name = AcroIEHelper.dll and the URL www.adobe.com
next one is stmain.dll etc etc

    this is just confusing

I feel like a Conservative when it comes to surfing the net. I wear suspenders in case my belt breaks....

When I set up a computer I DO NOT get online until everything is in place. I have a router with NAT. XP with SP2. ALL updates.Internet Explorer has its pop up blocker. Norton AV and Norton Internet Security, ie a firewall, again with all updates. I let Norton take over for XP`s firewall.Norton`s updates itself automatically. SPybot install, scan and innoculate. I install Peer Guardian and it updates automatically.

The end result is that when I finally do surf nothing BAD happens. Checking the statistics in NIS. Since I have been on line it has blocked 1879 web ads.

This is done BEFORE I get online for the first time. After the horse gets out of the barn , it`s too late to shut the door. Or in your case a bug has burrowed itself into your computer and you can not get it out. That is why you MIGHT have to format and start over, this time do not forget your suspenders or belt.

P.S Webroot also seems to be a pretty good program, with a lot of good features

Noton Internet Security has now blocked 1955 web ads.

81 web ads in 16 minutes.
