Turned on the PC this morning and when listening to any audio file the voice automatically goes off.
I went onto volume control and say that one of th scoll things had gone to the bottom so I put up then the voice began to work however when I clicked the cross to close the voulme control after a few minutes it went off again.
    This has continuosly been happening.

Also, when going on the internet every 15 minutes or so popups appear. Thinkinhg that I have a virus I done a scan with AVG which found nothing appart from cookies which were removed.
I then downloaded Windows Defender and the scan has been running for 1hr 30 and hasn't found anything.

Sometimes I get a voice that I normally get when switching web pages and this is happening even though I'm not doing anything on the web.

Do I have a virus/spyware that automatically turns my volume off? If so any advice?

    No luck nothing was found.

What is happening is that when the volume automatically goes off if I turn it back on at the same time I start to hear a voice that is similar to what you hear when switchng web pages.

Normally when I have a virus I send it the the computer shop andthey wipe everything off and charge £40.
Is there any way I can just do what they do myself?

do you need to back up stuff first?
you can see if your comp has a recovery partition to restore it to factory settings
or do you have recovery disks that either you made or came with computer

I have an external hard drive so back up won't be a problem

Idon't think I have any recovery disks I bought my PC a long time ago so I would have probabally lost them by know

does your comp have recovery partition
eg: when you turn computer on and hold down f8, or f9, f10 ect.....
do you have the option to do a factory restore

I pressed f8 and it came up with a windows advanced menu giving me the option to reboot carry on normally or to work in safe mood.

Internet pop up blocker is set on medium but doesn't make a differnce when it is on high.

    Nothing appears when pressing f1-

Would a system restore make a difference?

if it keeps on happening there is a fault with computer or virus/spyware is not been removed
im sure others on here would be able to advise you better
look up in the computer forum and find out who is giving out best/plenty info and send them a pm and ask if they can help in any way
before going to rip off world

download and run trend micro house call. It is free to use and doesn't install anything on your computer. I have used this on tons of computers. It will find and remove 99% of time every virus / malware on your machine.

ones your done running trend micro house call, download and run ccleaner.
ccleaner will clean up your registry and fix any errors that might be in there.\

but be carefull at what you delete after you scan
there are sites that will interpit your results for you!

    sounds an interesting problem
take it to your local repair shop they ought to charge around £40 pcworld is about £115
you could try combofix (google it) or system restore to a week ago. also try it in safe mode with networking to see if the problems are the same
