Hello. I have been burning DVDs for a while now. I've used two drives (a LiteOn and a NEC), and several pieces of software (Nero, DVDDecrypter, the build in burning software with DVD Lab, etc...). It seem to be a consistent problem that the DVDs I burn turn out successful, but when someone tries to play it (PC, DVD Players, pretty much everything), towards the end, it starts to hang up (freeze up) and eventually stop working. The media I have always used is Verbatim DVD-R 8x that I purchase in 100 pack spindels at Sam's Club. I've always heard that Verbatim was one of the best disks, so I never thought that would be the problem. Does anyone have an idea what could be going wrong for me? Thanks for your help!
I agree with beltline, but also keep in mind the following. Skipping and freezing can also be caused by "Burning Too Fast", as well as "Using Paper Stick On Labels". It is a good idea to check the firmware of your burner as well, because I understand that when your firmware is outdated, it may encounter issues with newer types dvd's. Not sure if that last part made sense. When using DVD Shrink, before hitting the Back up button, select "Custom Ratio" and slide the File Size back to reduce it. I personally push it back between 4250 and 4300. It is a good practice to burn at 2x or 4x, and remember, [bold]Do Not Use Paper Labels[/bold] JBurden
Some will say yes, and some will say no. Some say it leads to DVD Rot, some say it doesn't. Some say it throws the balance off, others will say that's bologna. I own a R300, so I print directly on the dvd. (Some say that is bad also) You could run a test with dvdinfopro after your burn, then place a label on it and test again. See if there is a difference.
Sako73 , I know people that use the printable DVD's and so far they have not had a problem. If the NEC and Lite-on can do (+) blank media then I would see if the disks could be booktyped . In doing that they would be more compatible w/ the different players
Do those DVD-R 8X Verbatims from Sam's Club have a genuine MCC manufacture's code? Somebody was warning about Verbatims that turned out to be CMC.
They should be good. I have had 100% sucess with those on three diferent burners including a 4X 3 year old NEC with no firmware update for almost two years.
Sako73, I really don't think it's your media. Verbatim's are "Top of the Line" media. Do you know what your settings were for file size in Shrink/Nero? If all your dvd's are hanging at the end or stopping at the end of the dvd, I really think you are burning too close to the edge.
Given the advice here, I believe you are correct. I have always used the stick-on labels, and I may have also been burning too close to the edge. I will try to correct both of these items and see if it solves the problem. Thank you for your help.
