Sorry for the double post, I put the first in the wrong forum. I don't know if it will work, but I have a Nokia 3220 with T-Mobile service. I just got my hands on a used Razr, but it's one of those phones branded by Cingular. Will my T-Mobile SIM work in that phone if I get the proper security code? What would that code be? I'm new to this aspect of cell phones. Upon further research, I've found sites that claim to be able to unlock a Razr for a certain amount of money. Are those sites a scam or legit? Thanks.

    Yes, they are a scam.
They will unlock your phone for a fee but there is no need to pay - read on, macduff...

This did take me about 5 hours to find all the info admittedly but it's all out there - Ignore all those trying to charge £10 to change 32 bytes of code - forums and torrent trackers are your friends!... Use them...

....V3 ONLY (as far as I know)...

    1. First thing to do is to check your firmware. Turn your phone off. Hold down the * and # keys, and press the ON key. Should be a black screen displaying a few characters.

If it says bootloader 7.D0 you are in luck. Go to step 4, then step 10

    2. If it says 7.E0, or 8.23 you can go here http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=7411

and grab the (unlockable) bootloader 7.D0 and apply it with Smartmoto or similar flashing app. Then see step 4.

    3. If it says 8.26 you will need the bootloader downgrader here http://rapidshare.de/files/13848110/scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2.zip.html so you can taste the sweet freedom. There are instructions in that link

    4. Put the 3 driver files on your hard drive (USBMOT2000.INF, P2K.INF, P2k.sys)

    5. Turn your phone on. Connect it to your computer. Windows should recognise it and ask for drivers. Point it to the drivers u just put on. When it has finished, your V3 will charge via USB.

6.Run Smartmoto. Windows should recognise some extra parts of your phone and ask u for drivers. Point it to the same drivers.

    7. Once Windows has finished installing these drivers close Smartmoto, and reboot your computer. Put the phone on flash. When windows has loaded again open up smartmoto. Connect your phone, and set the box in the top left of smartmoto to "computer USB Port". Hit the "search" button and smartmoto will find your phone.

    8. click on PC Flash at the bottom left. Click where it says "browse" and find the R374_V3BL_07.D0.shx file from your harddrive. Click on "write flash"

    9. When it is finished it will ask u if you want to flash another phone. Hit "no" and close smartmoto. Turn your phone off, and put it into flash mode once more. Don't worry if the flash screen now looks different - this is normal.

    10. Now you can run the Motorola_unlocker_2005_free and this time it should work. When it has finished your phone should be unlocked!!

My boot loader is version 8.26. I read through the post in your first link, but all the subsequent links are dead (they have been removed from the file host servers). I'd love to try this though. Any new links? Or is there a different place I can get this software? Your first post was very enlightening, thanks Skrab.
P.S. Are these websites where you pay for your phone to be unlocked COMPLETE scams? Because they are advertising compatibility with boot loader version 8.26. If downgrading the boot loader version runs the risk of screwing up the phone, I wouldn't necessarily mind paying $25 if it brought me some peace of mind.

thats cool. Your right in a way, remote unlocking is arguably safer, easier and does work, so those sites are not a COMPLETE scam, but they just annoy me when they claim theirs is only way to unlock 8.26 as this is a blatant lie!

there is always a risk in flashing any hardware device, if your computer turns off or if you drop your phone or break the connection in any way then you will be left with a very expensive brick :) But as long as this doen not happen u will be OK

The links for the downgrader here http://www.motox.info/showthread.php?t=7411

    or direct link http://rapidshare.de/files/13848110/scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2.zip.html

are still working at this time. Motox is a respected site and would not put up files like this if they were not good - I have succesfully downgraded two 8.26's with this...

I have a downgrader from Scotty2. The only thing is that I can't get it to find my phone. Do I need any special drivers? Should the phone be on or off? No information will go unappreciated. Thanks.

you'll need the 3 driver files http://rapidshare.de/files/17663496/USB_CHARGING_AND_SYNC.rar.html for your computer to recognise the phone and charge it via usb.

You can try the downgrader then, and if it is still not working, you could try installing a phone management software like mototools or p2kman, as those programs seem to install additional drivers for the phone

    from the downgrader's site

"IMPORTANT: Before you begin, make sure your battery is FULLY CHARGED. Make sure that you have a good stable connection with your phone and the computer. If you’ve been having problems connecting to other software with your V3 then you should NOT run this downgrade program until those problems are resolved."

Then once it is downgraded you should be able to freely unlock the phone. I was explaining the unlocking near the end of the thread here http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/16/283892

Awesome, thank you. I really needed those driver files because the battery was about to go dead and I don't have a wall charger. I'll post back once the battery's charged and tell you how the unlocking went.
    Thanks again mate.

    UPDATE
Oh, it works like a charm mate : ). Just made my first call. Thanks very much for all your help.

no problem ;) ... To change the outside pic and put MP3s on the phone there are a number of different apps u could use, the one I liked to use was called P2Kman

    http://rapidshare.de/files/17938769/p2kman.rar.html

in that pack is an example image which shows off the LCD quite nicely, but obviously you can also put our own on. The example image:

Not really. Well there probably is, but I don't know where...
What sort of problems are you having? The rapidshare link is fine you just scroll to the bottom then click free, then wait a second, then enter the verification code.

If I transfer my T-Mobile settings correctly, will I be able to get online with this Cingular Razr? Or is that something that will never happen?
    One more thing.
I took 15 sec samples of some mp3s and put them on for ringtones, but everytime I try to set one of these as my ringtone, it will just confirm the action and do nothing. I tried changing the ringtone through Settings > Audio (instead of My Stuff > Sounds > Set as ring tone) but all it shows are the preinstalled sounds that came with the phone. Any ideas?

Yes, you can transfer the tmobile web settings. The file is like a portion of a flash file - it is called a flex. You can flash the relevant flex with tmobile web settings (called "websessions") on to your phone. No tutorial though, cos I never bothered wit h internet on V3...You can try motox.info or motomodders.net.

For the MP3s,u could try taking one off your phone first, like the startup sound. Inspect the settings (64kbps or something...), then try your own files, similarly encoded...

If you still get no joy then I would suggest visiting one of the above-mentioned moto sites and going through one of their tutorial/walkthroughs...
