PERSONALLY!!!I think everybody is getting off track with all the little petties.I personally thought these forums were to help each other?Maybe I'm wrong! But myself,I like to hear about bad & good media.I've tried & used a lot of different media, and had my fair share of good & bad experience with them all. I CONTINUALLY CHECK THESE FORUMS FOR THAT REASON!!! If I see others having problems with the same media I'm using.Well maybe something is wrong! So it's time to change for a bit.I've recently had problems w/stamped RIDATA.Seem the last 3 fifty packs I've opened the first 3 Discs were bad in all 3 bundles. Before that it was Prodiscs, when they changed manufacturers.now I'm useing Ty's cause everybody seems to think they are good.Who really knows for sure? Unless u try,and pay heed to these here forums.I'm thankful to all who post.Just seem everybody tells YA how bad something is,but they don't seem to tell Ya what they are useing now. When I posted about bad Prodisc experience,I also posted a quick fix for their temperary set-back.I just had to reduce the Disc size by 300 meg.I got some appreciative feed-back.It's good we talk!!THANKS All
Thank you rick, couldn't have said it better myself. I also personally think that most should here bad and good, but for other to sit there and say stuff about Memorex is childish. I agree that you are right, bad experience with media DOES happen. And as a matter of fact, I know of several instances where TY disc haven't been successful, but I don't think they are stated here. But they are still good to use. I like my Memorex's and I think that I just get good sets of them. BTW...your not wrong, the forums are definately helpful. There are just some people who don't understand things sometimes when explained. But that's ok. It's good that the TY are working well for you, hopefully they will continue to do so! Hope to see you around in another thread!
1. Would any aD Addict that believes Memorex Media should be recommended please raise your hand by posting here. 2. Would any aD Mod that believes Memorex Media should be recommended please raise your hand by posting here. 3. If any person that believes that 97% successful burn rate is good enough for media that costs even more then the higher quality media with a 100% successful burn rate please raise your hand. OK, Venom you can put your hand down now on question three! LOL
ritek has been having quality issues . ritek claims that a firmware update resolves compatibility issues with the G05 dye . i have not tried any of this media lately as many users here at AD have reported high coaster rates . was there any visible defects on the disc's that were bad ? it seems odd that the first 3 disc's in 3 different spindles are bad . have you tried getting a refund ? i wonder if some thing is going wrong during the manufacture process thats causing the first three disc's to be bad ? here is a little info on ritek media . http://www.afterdawn.com/news/archive/6243.cfm
@venomX05 Prodisc and CMC are the issue with Memorex. CMC is the manufacturer that gave Memorex the bad name. Prodisc hasn't done much to improve it. Other brands sell CMC manufactured media; i.e. Verbatim, Imation, Philips, Samsung, Speer, and Sunstar. However, Memorex is the only one I'm aware of that was/is selling the CMC manufactured media across their entire line. Some brands like Verbatim will only have it as a less expensive part of their line. There is quite a difference between the Datalife-CMC and the DataLifePlus with the AZO dye (Mitsubishi and TY). As far as the quality of CMC, it is lacking in comparision. The physical aspect is obvious. The CMC I got in Memorex was poorly finished around the outer edge. That's the important area of a disc, where the layers are connected. Meaning, they didn't take time to put on the finishing touches as well as other brands. Also, the coaster rate was a bit high. 3 or 4 failed burns out of a small 15 spindle pack. You're looking at 20% or so failure there. Enough failures that I don't want to purchase any more and I placed them on the "questionable" list. With everyone else bad mouthing CMC, I figure something is up. When Memorex gets a rep as a good media, I might try it again. At one time I was fond of Memorex, but that was when they were selling products by companies like Ricoh, Philips, Ritek, and Mitsubishi. [bold]Note I didn't say "Memorex Sucks". I did say "Memorex (CMC) quality is questionable".[/bold] You don't need to list the drives compatible with Memorex; those should be listed somewhere. Out of curiosity, where did you come up with "20 different" DVD players to check your media against? I have several friends and acquaintances, but I don't feel comfortable enough with all of them to invite myself over to use their video equipment. I don't work for an electronics store that carries "20 different" brands; even the big stores don't carry that many. If I was rich enough, I don't think I would have "20 different" DVD players in the mansion. I'd probably buy them all from the same supplier. You can see how some numbers lend themself to being questioned. Now if you were an employee in the lab at Consumer's Digest, then I might see "20 different" players setting around there, maybe. Hmmm... Sarcasm? Glad you caught that. There was just a touch. As you know, you did come off a bit rude. As I've been accused of being brusque lately, I didn't want to come right out and say anything of that sort. Since someone else pointed it out to you and you realize you did it, then you may see why I might add a touch of sarcasm. And if you're looking for an argument, kindly go eleswhere. I've been attacked by juvenile delinquents and some obvious fools here on AD and it will be a while before I have the extra energy for any confrontations. You seem to have stirred up some other members, so if you're looking for an argument, feel free to argue with someone that wants to. Have a nice day!
Nephilim, Interesting... Just had a snack with flapjacks and beans. May end up being gas powered. LOL
memorex IS IT LIVE OR IS IT MEMOREX? yaa right cdr media the white ones and the silver ones scratch easy and coasterable once in a while really the only media ive had problems with but hell if there on sale ill buy em anyways!

Hello their dlc2000!!Can't say for sure, but I think I might have found the problem.I keep 2 stacks of back-up blanks that I know are GOOD (ProDisc old media #,Ritek G04s)bougt way back when all was FLAWLESS!So now when I have the slightest problem w/Media,I slap in one of these Disc's.If it burns bad, then I feel I must be having a problem with software. So I simply uninstal Nero & Re-Instal.This seem to work>Just a process of elimination! Can't really say for sure what might cause individuals problems. All I can do is post solutions,Pros & Cons of my personal problems & hope others Associate & this helps them.Cause when I read in this forum I don't just look for solutions,I look for problems,in hopes of me haveing the same problem and being able to resolve them,& get back to my larceny with a HEY HEY HEY alls OK again (for a little while anyway) Also I've been useing Memorex DVD-RW 2.4'sINFODISCA01 & Linkyo DVD-RW 2.4 same Info #.I've been useing these to record my TV shows. With minor issues, about every 5th or 6th record session,I have to do a full erase in NERO.Or I do ger bad sectors. But I did buy all these Disc's that I'm talking about at or about the 3rd month of last year.Times do change!!!!But I will stay in touch with this forum,in hopes that I can help & be helped. All I can say is Thanks to ALL
I bought a spindle of Sony DVD-R ver. 2.0 4.7 gig 1x-8x discs and at 3/4 of the way through the spindle I already have 6 bad discs. I have a Panasonic DMR-E75V and read about some problems with this machine (after purchase) and I am a non-tech kind of person. So, I tried a disk from the bottom of the spindle, too. No dice. I tried a TDK DVD-RAM for the same recording and everything was great. The Sony would freeze up in the first 3-22 seconds of recording. Through the first two I thought oh well, bad discs happen. Then, with the next, at first I thought it was the awful static electricity frying the discs. I grounded myself before going to remove the disk, but same problem. The machine wouldn't open, said it was opening, displayed "close", said "read" for 5 minutes or so. Then it would power down. Power up would cause "self-check" then "read" then I got the message of an error and that I should remove the disk which of course I had been trying to do. I coped with the problem by recording a couple of minutes worth and watching the display so that when it froze, I stopped recording and then erased that recording. Seems like its working to do that and so far I am still getting an hour of recording on XP. Just thought maybe I should research and see if anybody else is having this problem. I don't think its the machine as it works fine after I get the initial problem taken care of with these discs by erasing, plus the TDK DVD-RAM works fine. However, as I said, I am a non-tech person. My attitude is that I just want to buy a machine, some media, and record without having to KNOW every blasted thing about how it works. I have a collection of old things on VHS and they are deteriorating and I just want to save them. Why (whine coming on) do I have to struggle with this. And why can companies ethically charge so much for media that causes so much trouble? Thanks for listening.
Forgot to mention there was no visible damage to packaging, spindle or disks, they came from Target. NOT on sale. No dust, no scratches.
Hey their Fuzzycake if u are going to buy at retail stores stick with FujiFilm last year they were G04's which is ritek, don't know this yr.as I only buy online now.U can find these on sale W/Rebates. But buy online!Buy Ritek,Redata,Taiyo-Yuden. I'll buy ProDisc when on sale & try if they work out alright,I'll Buy more. When I start to have problems with them I lay off for a while.Prodisc are my last choice,It's ashame because they have a better printing face then all the rest.I only buy Hub printable DVD's as it is a lot better then labels
Thanks for the suggestions Rick! I live in a town of less than 45,000 people so we don't have lots of retail stores to choose from. I guess I'll have to start on-line shopping.
Try a 50 pack of the ProDisc u can get them at http://www.supermediastore.com/ I use the DVD-R printable to hub,the DVD-R are more compatible to stand alone DVD Players. The worst pac I've gotten had 10 bad Disc's in the 50 pac.But that was way back when they changed their media manufacterer. They have definetly improved since then. They are really reasonable, shop carful & u can even get free shipping.I keep a shit load of Disc's on hand, just so I can take atvantage of free shipping.Right now u can buy a pac of 50 for Total:26.26 ,this is with shipping. That's $.53 a piece.I figure u can afford maybe 3 bad Disc's before considering changeing media. This is my rule of thumb,if I get that 4th bad Disc I change back to Ritek.Don't get me wrong I buy a lot of Ritek,I keep at least 200 on hand at all times, this is my save for free shipping inventory
Mitsui(MAM-A) problems: Purchased around 150 Mitsui(MAM-A) 4x DVD-R media around 8/2004. I unfortunately relied on past experience with that manufacturer's CD-R media being of excellent quality. Upon reading further posts on this forum, I eventually decided to run a more thorough test on the media using Kprobe2. Wow, the BLER(which I assume is the Block Error Rate) was huge for the Mitsui media compared to the Taiyo's I got from Rima.com. The PI for Mitsui's were steady at 1200-1400 across the entire disc. The PI for the the TY's were steadily under 30 with a 90 spike once. I attempted this lengthy test on several discs from different spindles and the TY's looked virtually identical. The Mitsui's were all bad but it varied with some having higher error rates towards the beinning and others at the end. Kprobe returned the manufactuer code I got with DVD Identifyer(MCI4XG) but it has "[Nashua]" after it. Guess Mitsui was farming out their manufacturing to those clowns. I have just finished attempting to copy about 100 of the Mitsui discs and have experienced unrecoverable CRC errors on about 25 of them. Some of these discs played fine after the initial burn almost a year ago, but now most of the ones that error out now are unplayable. Pretty disturbing. I don't remember anyone else posting Mitsui stories so I guess fortunately these are not distributed widely, just be careful and don't buy Mitsui's. I even paid a premium for these crappy discs at over $1.20 a disc. I guess I shall also chalk it up to early learning experience like my experience with the crappy TDK's from Costco.
LINKYO 8X DVD-R White Inkjet Printable. I picked up 50 of them from supermediastore and so far I've burned 2 of them. They both burned fine, but when it comes to playbackonmy Sony DVD player, I get the dreaded dirty disk error on one. I looked at the dye and from what I see, it looks tohave blemishes on there. Not sure why one doesn't play and the other play when they both have these blemishes. Being in the process of moving my DVD collection to these with the lable, I'll give you an update on these as I go thru more.
