I got a 30 pack spindle, and have used about half of them with little success on my standalone Toshiba DVD Player. Also, I tried Memorex 8x DVD-Rs (CMC) and the three that I have burned worked on my standalone.
Yes I will explain Brobear, There were 2 batches made of the Resident Evil 2. One batch had what has come to be known as Dummy files. I was one of the unlicky ones to purchase that Movie. I was going to make a copy for me Just in case. AnyDVD has not been able to read the dummy files. Disk makers are trying to get smart but just are not fast enough.
Oh and Brobar, I said I have tried all the media types in my area. I live on a very small Island and there are not many shoppping stores here. I am not flying out of the island to get DVDs. They are not worth that much to me.
Dear EGYPT I understand you situation but could'nt you order online ? you do get mail service /UPS & fed EX on your island ? that way you could get whatever brand media you want! although I'm not sure what the shipping cost would be that's athought anyway! OR you could go to the merchant who sells the media you use now and ask them to order a better brand! If you got several friends together and ordered in bulk he may just do it. Again I'm sorry for your predicamentbut when life sends you a problem it also sends a solution ! hope I sparked your imagination to solve this one good luck on your solution -chin up be brave & fight the good fight - PEACE
Media: ProDisc printable Merchant: SuperMedia.com Media code/Manufacturer IDRODISC R03 Media Product Revision Number:03h No complaints with Supermedia other than phone wait times to ask for RMA are long... After burning a spindle of 100 without any burn errors (8x HP530i) some discs turned up unwatchable. After scanning all discs just for surface defects, I found more than 25% (and counting) with major defects rendering disc unusable. The next shipment from Supermedia came with OptoCrap substituted. They are not printable to the hub but so far have burned without surface defects. I've only burned about 30 so far though. The phone personnel have said that the ProDisc item is no longer in stock, though their website has never reflected this and continues to let you place orders which will be backordered and/or canceled so beware. After talking with them on the phone I get the impression they have identified a problem. They claim they have "no information from the manufacturer as to when more will be available", whatever that means.
Egypt322 At least you have a computer, electricity and the internet. The media issue might be something you want to take to the media section. It would be a strange burner that is limited to only 2 particular discs and those RW. Some disc manufacturers have preferred burner apps, but I've found if the software and burner are decent and the media is compatible, then a decent recording isn't highly dependent on an individual program. I'm not sure of the media you're getting on the island, I'd advise getting a copy of the freeware DVDInfoPro and run a test on some of the blank media, or any good disk utility that will check the condition of recording media. On the subject of RE2, the Disk makers have little to do with being able to back up the DVD. They supply the media, but it is up to the decrypters, transcoders, and burners to backup the DVD. I happen to own RE2 with the unreadable sector (dummy files) encryption. I wasn't aware the studio released a version without the structural encryption. Most everyone on the forum has talked about the one with unreadable sectors. AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter both broke the encryption on this disc. I had no problem ripping it to the hard drive. This was the only movie I've had to cause DVDCopy3 to mess up for the backup. Using RB/CCE to encode, the backup was no problem. RE2 was problematic, but with the right software, the backup was doable and AnyDVD and DVD Decrypter played a key role in doing the job. On review, Im curious about that statement. "I used the same DVD software...", what was the same DVD software? "... on both Apollo DVD Copy", and what? That statement was confusing. Irregardless, I would advise downloading a trial of another program and give it a try to see if another program would do a better job. DVDCopy3 from InterVideo (not good for RE2) or CloneDVD2 from Slysoft, the same company that sells AnyDVD are 2 good programs with trials. Recode2 in the Nero trial is another. DVD Decrypter and DVD Shrink along with CopyToDVD or Nero as the burner is a good setup. You can try something a bit easier to record than RE2 or one of the other structurally encrypted movies. I've used DVDCopy3 on Little Black Book (unreadable sectors) and others and had no problem like the RE2. I've never heard of this Apollo program. Also, trying to record some of the structurally encrypted movies can be tricky. SUper DVD Copy and DVD shrinker (guess you were referring to DVD Shrink) are both transcoders, so why use both. Also, you need a burner program to go along with the Shrink unless you're saving the file and burning with Super DVD Copy. Other than the CloneDVD2 and AnyDVD combo, and DVD Shrink, I was unfamiliar with the other programs you mentioned, and I've been around for a while. I'm starting to wonder if the problem might not be software related as well.
ProDisc code: F01 Merchant: Sprint Computers Problem: all discs burn fine, however, none of them can access any of the data past 3G. Tried many spindles all the same.
Are you talking about recording data or video? How much data does the PC say you burned to the discs? If you're not making a good burn, see if the burner needs a firmware update. Check the firmware irregardless, I've seen it do some strange things.
Doesnt matter what I burn, movies will stop playing at the 3G mark, and any data after that point is not readable and will usually hang up the player. I recently got some Fuji (ProdiscF01) and they work fine. I really cannot figure that out. I posted that in another thread.
Use DVDInfopro (freeware), put one of the discs in question in and run a media test. The Icon with the magnifying glass starts the necessary test. See if you have errors on the graph corresponding to the space on the disc. Also, check to see if the burner firmware is up to date.
I have never updated the firmware. I don't really think that is an issue though now that the FUJI discs have no issues, and they are the exact same code. Or am I wrong with this?
Firmware causes some strange differences. One guy was stuck at 1X due to out of date firmware (just an example of a quirky problem). Normally firmware is to keep the drive compatible with more media. But, on occasion there is more to it. I always make sure to keep the firmware up to date to take that variable out of the equation. What did the test with the DVDInfoPro indicate. http://www.dvdinfopro.com
I bought a 25 spindle of bulkpaq 4x speed dvd + , I burnt 18 of them with movies only to find they wont play in any dvd player in the house, nor will they play in the playstation 2 and guess what ? the buggers wont even play in the PC, the movies are on the discs because they will play in the burner that they were recorded on.; time to go for something different. thats €25 down the swanny.
Raises some questions. Is it the media? BulkPaq sells a lot of no name merchandise. (Interesting note. A German database was listing the Red 8X as having a Taiyo Yuden production code, but it's bogus merchandise because it isn't a Taiyo Yuden product.) What media are the players compatible with? And are the software and firmware on the PC up to date? The first thing I'd do is buy some quality media and see if the problem persists.
I finally got to the root of my problem. It was bad ProDisc media, I updated firmware, still nothing, so I sent them back. I have others that work.
I actually went downgrade on my dvds and they work fine in any dvd player ive tried them in. DVD-R 4x stor media (no neither have I)
Doesn't matter, if you like to gamble. Many find it safer to buy branded at sale prices to get the cost down. Cheaper doesn't always mean inferior quality when you have some idea of what you're getting. As for the no name media, I just can't bring myself to give money to people with no idea of what I'm going to get in return.
nightborn Glad to see you got your problem solved. Plus, now you don't have to worry anymore about the firmware, maybe for a while anyway (you need to check support occasionally). Did you use the DVDInfoPro to check the media or just use deductive reasoning?
na, I didnt bother with the software, as there were so many returns at this store of this particular batch of media, and the fact that I got some fuji with the same ProDisc F01 code and they worked fine, i just went by that.
caution mertline fasely advertising switched part #'s as super grade got general grade. I've been ordering 100 pk's of go4 part# 102-002-100 for a long time now the ones I received this last time are general grade different disks different packaging http://www.meritline.com/ritek-ridata-g04-4x-dvd-r-blank-media-disc-matte-1.html they did change to general purpose down by the ordering links but the description still shows the super grade from what I can tell they changed what I usally get to this part#/ page 102-303-100 / http://www.meritline.com/ritek-4x-dvd-r-media-matte-media.html . after repeated emails they still dont want to admit it and just send rma for more junk. I capture my churches services and burn to dvd's for people and I've wasted tons of time and money buying stuff from local stores that I know probaly will only work for a couple months, so I'm gonna have to get good media and replace all of them. I've only been ordering 100 @ a time to check out vendor waiting till we where ready to order a big order of dvd's and cd's now I dont know what to do. we are in michigan USA. and want to get a good price but of course Quality Thanx!!
