I recently burned a copy of zelda windwaker on some cheap mini dvd-r and miraculously it boots all the the time and I never get a DRE. Problem is, loading times are a nightmare! It seems like the game freezes whenever it tries to reach the title screen but in truth, you have to wait like 3 minutes or something before it loads. This also happens when I try to enter/exit a building in the game. Also, during the intro cutscene, the music would sometimes loop and loop for a while, but the cutscene doesnt freeze. Now my question is, will doing the pot tweak remedy this? I haven't tried it yet because I still don't have a gamebit to open the cube.
it will, before i got my pot on the right mark it had a similer problem, but to make shure its not just ur cube do the original games have problems loading if not mod the pot
Oh yeah, I also have Smash Bros on the same type of media and its got the loading problems as well, but no DREs and it always boots. Original games work fine. I also have another backup, Resident Evil 0 which was burned on generic media I believe, and that works perfect too.
Some games will work flawlessly whereas others have multiple issues if your pot isn't adjusted properly. Just bring it to around 200 ohms and see if that helps.
maybe my cube's just having a hard time reading the disc coz the problem carried itself over to the other game i burned using the same media (though wind waker works a little better, maybe because i burned it at 2x while i used 4x for smash bros). I hope the pot tweak will help...
I don't remember if those games have streaming audio or not, but back-ups with streaming audio don't work too well without pot adjustments. At least it seems that way. Since Wind Waker's audio seems to loops without the game locking up, it might actually have streaming audio. Try adjusting the pot and see if it plays any better. Also, cheap media could cause problems as well since the success rate is significantly lower with those.
I think it does have a hard time with the audio. Also, the games always take a long time to load in the same places, not randomly. In Smash Bros, it always takes forever after you press start to reach the menu and it also takes forever after you pick your characters (I don't know after that coz I got tired of waiting, lol). In Zelda, the screen goes black for a long time after the pro logic logo before the title screen and it always takes a long time to load the overworld whenever I exit a buildiung in the first island.
Is there like a list of games that use streaming audio? I just want to check if that is really the problem with my backups, since they seem to run fine except for the ridiculous loading time problems
i dunno why but my cube didnt read back ups at 200ohms i had ti take it to 150 before it evn thought about reading it and then 120 to get it to work flawlessly, my laser must be really gay
Ok, seems like wind waker won't let me continue on with the game anymore. I'm at the forbidden woods, and whenever I reach the 3rd room (the one where you have to board a platform and use wind from the leaf thingy to push you to the next door), the next room won't load properly and I would just jump into empty space. When I try to save upon stepping into this room, the game would just freeze at the now saving screen. Also, when I try going back to the previous room, objects such as grass and the flowers the spit you out dissapear. I don't know if the copy I burned was messed up or my cube just can't read the dvd properly since this happens 100% all the time. Man this is frustrating, and I thought my only problem was the loading times. Also, as I said, no DREs appear, just a black screen.....
After reading your other posts, it seems like you still haven't adjusted your pot. You really need to do that in your situation. Also, what BIOS are you using to run back-ups? I can only assume it's a soft mod since you haven't opened your GameCube. If it is, get GCoS v1.5 or the newest Ninjamod and see if that helps at all.
Actually I had it modded by someone. He put a ripper 3 in it (which I believe has to be the worst GC modchip out, lol) with its latest bios. I'm gonna meet up with him maybe next week to get the chip replaced for a qoob, and maybe I'll borrow his screwdriver to open up my cube and check the pot while I'm at it....
I've never really heard much about the Ripper 3, so I couldn't even begin to judge it's performance. However, since you're deciding on getting a Qoob, make sure you use enable audio fix in the settings menu for it to play games with streaming audio properly. The Qoob Pro has it, but I don't know if the SX does or not. Maybe someone else could clear that up.
Well, according to the modthatcube website, all the latest bioses have the Streaming Audio Fix, even for my ripper chip
I figured a most of them starting implementing it, but didn't know all of them had it now. Did you figure out if you can disable/enable it yet?
Well the problem with the ripper is that it doesn't have a setup menu, lol. All the settings are supposed to be enabled by default
