On my second time recording on a new Maxell DVD-R 8x disc it said that it could not record on it since the power calibration area was full. However, after ejecting the disc and inserting it once again, it recorded fine. My question is: If I continue recording on this disc will I be risking losing the contents on it? Thanks in advance.

Yes. The inability to write to the PCA is a sign of larger problems with the disc i.e. cheap or defective media.
