I would get the power calibration error almost every time I tried to burn something. Then I would retry it and it would burn fine. Then it started to get worse so I did some searching and found that updating my driver would fix it. I updated my drive and it fixed the problem. Every thing was fine for a few months. Now it works fine when I am burning data, pics, avi, mp3s etc but when I try to burn ISOs I get the power calibration error again. Most of the time it will ruin the disc. And the few times it did start to burn it would error out at 20-50% done. I have a Lite-On LH-20A1H. Is my drive dieing? Can this be fixed or do I need a new one? If I need a new one what brands are best? Thanks
If it's only when burning DVDs, try switching to Verbatim brand disks. A power calibration error is often caused by inferior media;the burner has a problem figuring out how much laser power to use.
I forgot to mention I do use verbatim dvds when burning ISO images. I burn all my other stuff on memorex dvds. Everything I burn works great except when I burn ISOs.
