A power calibration error is caused by the inability of a DVD-RW drive to use a DVD-R or DVD-RW disk.(also effects cd rom drives) DVD-R and DVD-RW disks themselves have information written on them, within this Media ID code there is information that the drive uses to calibrate itself to the disk, when a drive first starts to write to a disk it will burn a small amount of data to a calibration area on the disc, using the calibration information in the Media ID code, and then try to read back the data that it has written. If it cannot be read, then disk will be ejected and fail with a power calibration error. A power calibration error is normally caused by problems with the media. Should you be experiencing problems with your drive or the media, we recommend that a disk from a good quality manufacturer be used to test it.
Power calibration errors can mean many things. As andmerr stated, this error can be due to the media you are using. It also can mean that the drive is not getting the power it needs(check you cables to see that they are seated securely), and lastly and I hope this isn't the case...you drive is dead(buy a new one). But before we buy a new drive, lets try the cheaper solutions first. This means the drive doesn't like your media, change to Verbatim, Taiyo Yuden or Sony, Maxell, Fuji(made in Japan)...stay away from Memorex, Imation, Philips, Kyphermedia, etc. all made in Taiwan. I also see you have the Nero InCD package installed...a big no,no. Uninstall Nero completely off your system and reinstall omitting the InCD package, it is known to bugger with DVD burning.
Thankyou, I was using maxell disks, It has worked for 2 years, I will take off incd and check the cables, but in 2 years a lot of disks have went through the burner,it is a good chance that it is finally going out, thankyou again for the reply
I have not done that many, maybe in the 2000 range, i just blew a little air duster in the drive and it worked for one burn and then quit again, i have used the drive disk cleaners and that did not work.
I have now tryed sony disks from japan and I uninstalled incd from my computer and I am still getting the 'Power calibration error'
It still is not working , here is a new log Windows XP 5.1 IA32 WinAspi: File 'Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=4.60 (1021), size=45056 bytes, created 9/10/1999 12:06:00 PM ahead WinASPI: File 'C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\Wnaspi32.dll': Ver=2.0.1.74, size=164112 bytes, created 10/26/2004 6:35:34 PM Nero API version: 6.6.0.18 Using interface version: 6.3.1.4 Installed in: C:\Program Files\Ahead\Nero\ Application: ahead\Nero - Burning Rom Internal Version: 6, 6, 0, 18e Recorder: <HP DVD Writer 400c> Version: KH27 - HA 1 TA 0 - 6.6.0.18 Adapter driver: <atapi> HA 1 Drive buffer : 2048kB Bus Type : default (0) -> ATAPI, detected: ATAPI === Scsi-Device-Map === DiskPeripheral : HDS722580VLAT20 atapi Port 0 ID 0 DMA: On DiskPeripheral : ST380013A atapi Port 0 ID 1 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : HP DVD Writer 400c atapi Port 1 ID 0 DMA: On CdRomPeripheral : E-IDE CD-ROM 45X atapi Port 1 ID 1 DMA: On === CDRom-Device-Map === HP DVD Writer 400c D: CDRom0 E-IDE CD-ROM 45X E: CDRom1 ======================= AutoRun : 1 Excluded drive IDs: WriteBufferSize: 74448896 (0) Byte ShowDrvBufStat : 0 BUFE : 0 Physical memory : 511MB (523764kB) Free physical memory: 164MB (168744kB) Memory in use : 67 % Uncached PFiles: 0x0 Use Inquiry : 1 Global Bus Type: default (0) Check supported media : Disabled (0) 18.2.2006 NeroAPI 11:04:22 PM #1 Phase 112 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation started 11:04:22 PM #2 Phase 114 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files reallocation completed (no file modified) 11:04:22 PM #3 Phase 111 File APIProgress.cpp, Line 276 DVD-Video files sorted 11:04:23 PM #4 Text 0 File Reader.cpp, Line 127 Reader running 11:04:23 PM #5 Text 0 File AudioCompilationImpl.cpp, Line 842 DRM: StartDrmRecording(RealRec:1, ImageRec:0, Copies:1) DRM: Beginning burn process. 11:04:23 PM #6 Text 0 File Writer.cpp, Line 122 Writer HP DVD Writer 400c running 11:04:23 PM #7 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 11:04:23 PM #8 ISO9660GEN -11 File geniso.cpp, Line 3309 First writeable address = 0 (0x00000000) 11:04:23 PM #9 Text 0 File Burncd.cpp, Line 3233 Turn on Disc-At-Once, using DVD media 11:04:23 PM #10 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 270 Last possible write address on media: 2295103 (510:01.28, 4482MB) Last address to be written: 2125103 (472:14.53, 4150MB) 11:04:23 PM #11 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 282 Write in overburning mode: NO 11:04:23 PM #12 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 2483 Recorder: HP DVD Writer 400c, Media type: DVD+R 11:04:23 PM #13 Text 0 File DlgWaitCD.cpp, Line 448 >>> Protocol of DlgWaitCD activities: <<< ========================================= 11:04:23 PM #14 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 838 Setup items (after recorder preparation) 0: TRM_DATA_MODE1 () 2 indices, index0 (150) not provided original disc pos #0 + 2125104 (2125104) = #2125104/472:14.54 relocatable, disc pos for caching/writing not required/ required, no patch infos -> TRM_DATA_MODE1, 2048, config 0, wanted index0 0 blocks, length 2125104 blocks [HP DVD Writer 400c] -------------------------------------------------------------- 11:04:23 PM #15 Text 0 File ThreadedTransferInterface.cpp, Line 1051 Prepare recorder [HP DVD Writer 400c] for write in CUE-sheet-DAO DAO infos: ========== MCN: "" TOCType: 0x00; Still isn't liking your discs, have you tried a different brand? I'm going to call in our resident Nero expert, Creaky, and maybe he can find something we are missing.
I just got a new burner and hooked it up and it is doing the same thing my old burner was doing, it is giving my the power colibration error, my new burner is a lacie D2, I do not know what could be wrong
I updated the firmware on my new lacie d2 burner and it started working, I have done 2 movies so far, I do not what to say to much, I am afraid I will jinks it, thank you for all your help and happy burning
