Hey everyone, I've been having problems with my Nero 7 when I burn. It starts buring at 1 percent then stops saying Burn Process Failed, Power Calibration Error. Now whats the problem? Is the processor on my comp burning out? It started where I made four copies of my film then I got the error so I rebooted then it worked good. I did that a few more times and then the error message came back and longer. I kept my comp off for over a day then tried once more and it happened again. Now I have no clue whats wrong. I'm using maxell dvd-r, I plugged the external dvd burner in its own oulet and the cables are all fine. Could it be possible I burned out my burner completly? And also the dvd-r's I used while I got the error message will they still work to burn or are they garbage? Thanks for reading.
This explains it better than I could. http://ww2.nero.com/nero7/enu/faq_search.php?search=power calibration error&fid=857&s=0
I have a few questions I am having the same problem as well and I never did until I upgraded to the latest release of Recode 2. Is your recording speed set to Max and is the disc you are using a 16 x DVD? What I am finding out is since the update of Nero I can not record at 16x my drives are updated with current firmware and I have tried on three different systems with 3 different types of dvd drives with the same result "Power Calibration Error". I informed Nero but they take forever to get back to you. Try at the lower speed and see if it works for you.
mostly a power calibration error has to do with the media used. Change disk and try again.... burn at half the rated speed of the disk ... don't burn at maxium. the use of quality media should stop this kind of error. at least it always had for me. I use Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim disks only.... but have Sony DVD-RW disks too that I hardly use. All at top quality media that does not cause problems..... what's in your drive?????
hi Power Calibration is controlled by the recorder. Before any write operation, all recorders must do a 15 step power test to determine the optimum power for writing to the DVD/CD; this is called "Optimum Power Calibration"(OPC). During the write, it continues to do this test to get the best write throughout the whole DVD/CD; this is called "Running Optimum Power Calibration" (ROPC). This whole process is controlled by the recorder, though initiated by programs such as Nero. There is an area on the inner part of the DVD/CD for the test and test data info to be stored. You can use this area up to 999 times. If you receive the "Power calibration error" or "Power calibration area is (amost) full" error message, the cause will be either poor media, poor power, or a defective recorder.
I tried blowing in the dvd player, and I'm using Maxell DVDR- which I thought was pretty good, I shut off the thing in Control Panels Admistrative Tools where you disable the burner startup in Services and still the thing isnt working. Did I burn my dvd player out by making too many copies?
Hey thanks for that info Nero sent me that and I posted that info in earlier message. What I did today is setup 4 systems with 4 different versions of dvd burners with current firmware for all using Nero Recode 2 2.3.1.8. I then preceded to burn with the Sony -R dvd media set at the max speed. On all four systems I got the power calibration errors with the Sony's! Now I use Memorex and Maxwell 16X media and have it set to max and when I start the burn project on all four systems Recode defaults to 12x speed recording? I use other burning software with the Sony and they all default to the 12x speed and burn great. I setup one machine with a prior version of Recode and using the Sony's they burn at the 16x speed, so what does that tell you sounds like a program issue.
Can someone tell me how I can tell if my dvd player is the problem. Today I was able to burn one but then again it didnt work. Does my burner need a few hours to calm down?
