I'm an idiot! There doesn't seem to be any power to my HP CD Writer. That is, the light doesn't come on & the door won't open. However, the lower DVD rom is fine. Does this mean the CD Writer is toast, or could something else be wrong?
    Can somebody please help??

Doesn't mean your burner is dead. Check your device manager to see if your computer recognizes there's a cd burner. You can find it through your device manager. If not, try re-loading the driver software for it again and restart your computer. Get back with me.

make sure your power cable is connected to your drive. If it is, try a different plug, your computer should have some spares. If nothing gives power to your drive, it may be toast.
