Hi Guys. I have built a pc but i`m having problems with it...
The System is built around a AMD Athlon 3200+ 64 bit (Socket 754)
The mother board is a asus X Series (K8V-X SE)The problem is that the system keeps shutting down whilst in Bios. The System will only stay on for about 30 seconds before this happens so i dont think its a over heating problem. Ive swapped out the PSU and tried clearing the CMOS but still get the same problem.
Ive tried another Hard disc with windows already on. I can boot to windows but again, after about 30 sec`s it turns off. The system is not crashing its like someones turned it off at the wall. It just turns off. There is a green LED on the board that stays lit indicating that power is still at the Board. The system will turn on again strait after but again turns off after 30 seconds
Has anyone got any ideas????Ive built a few pc`s now but this is the first time ive come across this and its head f£*king me...

sounds like a processor/processor heat problem or RAM problem, as the great always say trying taking everything out but 1 stick of ram and video card if not installed and hdd, or try swopping a RAM over from a differnet machine and try again and hopefully u will find the fault, always works with mine.

Ive monitored the CPU heat and it seems to be getting warm. The mother board says its getting to 190f!!! This happens in about 20 seconds though...Cant be right can it? Theres no way it could be getting that hot that fast is there?

that temp shows that your heatsink is not seated properly.

i thought that if the CPU temp was okish and the motherboard was showing high it was a different problem?

Ive double checked that the heat sink is seated properly and it is.
The temp sensor is between the heat sink and the top of the CPU as per instructions. I`m thinking that the mother board is tripping out because of the high reading. some kind of fault.

Right. My case has a bulit in temp display with a probe that goes between the heat sink and the top of the cpu. I have removed this and reseated the cpu and it seems to of done the trick. The mother board now reports that the CPU temp is holdind steady at 106.5f. Is this a normal temp?
