After I had my pc serviced (motherboard replaced), the printer now doesn't print properly. It prints a line or two of random characters, then endless blank pages. I checked all the connections and reinstalled the drivers, but the problem persists. I ran the diagnostic program that comes with it and here is what it gives me: [Versions] Windows Version=WinNT 0.00.2600 Service Pack 2 lpt.vxd=No Readback Data! gdi.exe=3.10.0.103 comm.drv=3.10.0.103 2BytesChar=No [Memory] Free Resource=1023.2MB System Resource=0% GDI Resource=0% USER Resource=0% [VPD Version] Version=Brother Parallel Class Driver Version 1.01 Version=Brother Parallel Class Driver Version 1.01 Version=Brother Parallel Class Driver Version 1.01 Version=Brother USB Printing Support [Status for LPT1] Result=Good Status Line=BUSY:L,ACK:H,PE:L,SLCT:H,FALT:H,SLIN:L,HBSY:H,INIT:H,STB:H Bi-di ID=Nibble [Status for LPT2] Result=(08)This port is not available. is the printer usb or parallel?? what is the setting in the bios for printer port: standard, ecp, epp or epp+ecp?
Its hooked on by parallel cable. The BIOS setting for the parallel port is set to "NORMAL". I can choose from "normal," "Bi-directional"," "EPP," or "ECP."
Tried EPP, then EPP. Didn't solve the prolem. When I choose ECP, i can select the ECP Mode DMA Channel. It defaults to DMA3, but I can choose DMA0, DMA1 or DMA3. Would that make a difference? ALso for EPP, i can select EPP Version 1.9 or 1.7. 1.9 is the default.
try the different settings in the bios for the printer port such as normal. also try a different parallel cable. can the printer use usb??
I switched from parallel cable to usb2.0 cable and that did the trick. My new mobo ust have a defective parallel port or something. Thanks.
